Well sh*t, blew my other sub.

SO i managed to blow my other sub, was running dual Audiobahnd with DVC 4 ohm 400 RMS, blew one *it already had a bad voice coil*.

I was running this last one at 8 ohms on a 4ohm 460rms feed. Now alls I hear is the shaking of the voice coil, and it no longer hits.

So my question is, what possibly blew it, running more watts (460 to a 400 sub) or something to do with my sub was set at 8 ohms? I just wanted to know, I am gonna order two new subs next week.

actually playing with it configured at higher ohms means it had more dampining it may have just been the power you were feeding it instead. Time to upgrade to better subs I say.

You were actualy only running 230W at 8 ohms. What probably happened is you had to crank it up to get the volume you wanted out of the sub and that caused distortion.

Thats my guess.

Did you have your two subs sharing one air space? maybe after the first one blew, the increased airspace reduced the pwoer handling enough for 230 watts to blow it.

Either of those options are possible, but audiobahn equipment is kinda crappy, so it could have just been the quality of your stuff...

Well I am up at bestbuy right now, I was looking around at subs. I am gonna go with the SWR-1222D Apline Dual 2 ohm Subs. 1500W Peak, 500W RMS. This things look SWEET, now I just gotta wait till the end of the month to get em .

What do you guys think of these speakers? I know they came out not to long ago, anyone have experience with them or Alpine's in general?
