i don't think dynamat has a smell to it. and i'm pretty sure they have installation specific kits that you can buy for the trunk and they also sell non specific kits. should be easy for a beginner, all you do is lay it down and use a roller to have it bond to the car.

It's the best stuff to use. NO smell at all, can be applied without a heat gun but you need the roller tool to make sure it bonds to the metal. Always clean the surface very well before application. The kits are all the same stuff, just different sizes of the stuff. Wedge pak has a little in it for filling patches, door kit has big sheets the size of the door almost, trunk kit even bigger. The hardest part is gonna be stripping the car and rolling on all that stuff. Let me tell you it helps ALOT when applied to the doors where the speakers are. I get all my dynamat from www.carmedia1.com

Dynamat is pretty good stuff, but expensive. I personally use B-Quiet Xtreme - cost me a little bit less on a group buy some time ago, same concept. Like gearbox said, make sure the surface is very clean and have a roller handy. Take some time to measure out the pieces you're going to use. I didn't and ended up overlapping a few pieces - no big deal but you can see it, it's on the underside of my trunk lid. Bothers the hell outta me.
