Distortion!!!!

AHH ok, so i myslef dont have a 7th gen but will come spring, but that isnt the point, my ex gf used to have an 03, my sister has an 03, and my brother has an 02(all of which are ex's) so i am familiar with these cars... NOw my brother just had me put in a sound system for his car, (i.e. headunit, amp, interiors and wiring. Well after tearing it apart and getting it all in i and horrible distortion/ interfreanace(sp?). SO i ran the RCAs on the driver side and the power on the passener(bring the wire in through the firewall on the passenger side, not by the drivers side and bringing it over) hoping ths would solve my problem that way the rcas and power dont come near each other to produce an alternator whine(if that is the case) NOw also his two driver side speakers jus stopped working,so i dont knwo whats going on, the amp is mounted on the back of the bigger portion of the back seat, and the wires (power and rca) dont cross what so ever...so i am asking you guys what you think may be interferring wiht this? thaks for you help, i am supposed to "fix" this on fri so give me your suggestons.

Do you have the amps grounded to a good spot with bare metal, not paint.

it is groudned on a screw right by the back seat but it isnt the best, ill sand down the paint on the metal, and tap into the frame/metal, any other ideas, could a round really cause this much static in spkears, cuz t is only when the ignition is on

I had my install done @ circuit city since my local guys know a good amount about wut they're doin and i didnt wanna tear apart my car when i first got it, I guess they had some problem putting power/RCAs on different sides, they wired both on the passenger side maybe they thought the RCAs were so good it wouldnt matter, both sets of my RCAs for the 4 chan amp and amp for subs are shielded and super high qual, the whine used to be a lot worse, they were even gonna replace me alpine amp for me to fix it, I told them I had read on here about the deck ground being ****, so im not sure wut all they did, its not 100% fixed, but u only hear the whine when its down really low, and even then its not SUPER noticable.. it gets drownd out really fast..

Summary: try making a better ground for ur deck..
my amp grounds are in the back the metal under the seats.. sanded and bolted down.. no idea how speakers would just stop working, somewhere along the line my subs have a loose wire somewhere i think they've randomly popped before, im thinkin possibly a loose ground but thats a whole nother story and im not 100% sure, i've been tinkering w/ things when it does pop and it hasnt in a while unless im on the interstate where there are TERRIBLE bumps :P

sorry to be lengthy hope this helps..

First, make sure the amp still works. Keep testing things one by one.

Try hook up a test speaker right to the amp outputs, see if there's sound coming out. If not, your speakers are probably fine. If it plays, it must be the wiring between the speaker in the door and the amp outputs.

If no sound comes out of the test speaker, switch the RCAs for the left and right, does sound come out of either speaker? If the sound works, there's something wrong between the HU and Driver side RCA. CHeck the RCA connections from the amp to the HU if it doesn't play.

If you have your gains up high, that could cause alternator whine, it did in my system. My volume control went from 0-60ish, and I had the gains turned up so I would only need to listen at around 10-15, but I turned the gains down and listen around 30-40, and no whine at all [and I admit.. I have power going down the passenger, RCAs down the middle ]

What equipment are you running, speakers, amps, what size power wire?

A bad ground can cause all sorts of nasty problems. It is also extraordinarily easy to fix (just sand down the area really well). It would be the first thing I'd try fixing.

it could be your deck. a lot of times distortion can come from the decks built in amp if you are powering the speakers from an external amp.(two amps interfering) if you check your headunits manual look how to shut off your internal amp on your head unit. also just double check everything....hope you find the cause and are able to fix it..

success! well the two speakers werent working because of loose connections last time i let my friend be in charge of putting the wires to the speakers now... the ditortion for the speakes was coming from the rcas position in the back of the hu so i wrapped them in foam and positioned them so they wouldnt be to close to the headunit..now its crystal clear and super loud!!, ill try to get pics up later for you guys and thaks for the help my bro is happy now and so am i haha.
