ICE Newbie Needs Your HELP!!

Sup guys. Ok, heres what I have.

2 Sony Xplod Subs, 800W Peak, 200W RMS, 4 Ohms
1 Sony Xplod Amp:
165W x 2 @ 4 Ohms
200W x 2 @ 2 Ohms
400W x 1 bridged @ 4 Ohms

OK, Right now I have it set up in a series. +Amp goes to +Sub1, -Sub1 goes to +Sub2, -Sub2 goes to -Amp. So that would be the 165W x 2 @ 4 ohms???? What setup would give me the most power to my subs? I was thinking the 200W x 2 @ 2 Ohms because my subs are rated at 200W, but how do I get the impedance to 2 ohms. My AMP says it is stable at 4 ohms yet it lists it can handle the 200W x 2 @ 2 Ohms setup? Im confused??

How to wire subs for a 2 ohm load is asked a lot, so I'll paste what I said in a previous thread which should answer your questions.

You wired it in a Series, which isn't giving you the full power. It is actually 8 ohms and UNDERworking the amp. If you change it to Parallel (2 ohm), you can see a major difference.

"Note that the impedance of two speakers in parallel will be one-half the rating of the subs, if both speakers are of the same impedance. This will result in a greater load being placed on your amplifier, so it is a good idea to make sure that the amp is stable for this lower impedance."
So, if they're 4ohm speakers, you're bringing them down to 2ohms. Most quality amps are 2ohm stable, but check their specs to make sure.

"Please see the diagram above, and note that the total load impedance will be the sum of the impedance of each speaker. This results in an easier load for the amplifier, resulting in cooler operation and cleaner signal, but less power output."
In this case, the 4ohm speakers will be 8ohms and draw less power and produce less power.

if he hooked them up in parallel his biggest change would soon be a fried amp...

with the equipment listed, the most power you can get from your amp would be the 165x2 at 4 ohms. DO NOT bridge your amp and hook up a 2 ohm load, for you will kill it. rather, wire each sub to each channel of the amp, + to +, - to -.

as you currently have it wired you are getting 100W to each speaker, so this is an improvement (almost 2dB gain/speaker)

His particular amp isn't stable BRIDGED at 2ohms....only in 2 channel mode.

If you bridge the amp and run them in Series wiring, they're gonna be at 8 ohms. Without seeing the manual, it's unsure whether you can run the amp in mono without bridging. It being a sony...probably not.
