I installed a Hifonics 4 channel amp to power my components last monday and everything was going great untill today. I already had a 2 channel amp to power my subs so instead of spending money on the distribution blocks, i just installed the 4 channel like I like the 2 channel. well today when I got in my car the only thing i heard were my subs and nothing up front
so I figured a wire must of come loose. So I turn of my car and check all the wiring and everything was fine. So I turn the car back and my components start working again
Well not for long, as soon as I put my seat back up (amp is installed on back of seat) the components stop working and the little red light lit up on the amp. What is going on, is it the way I installed it or where I installed it? The only thing I know is that everything had been running smoothly for a whole week untill today.
Somebody please

Has it been significantly hotter out today than the rest of the week? That red light either means thermal protection, or wrong OHM load for the amp. If everything is wired correctly as you say, then it's most likely thermal. Wait till its cool out tonight, and try again. Or run the car with the amps off (turn your HU off, that should shut down the amps) and the A/C on for a while so everything is nice and cool; then turn everything on and see how long it plays. Since you are in CA, I would suggest driving with the seats folded down during the day, that will keep everything cool while it's in use.

Your amplifier is going into protection, my hifonics amplifier does it everyonce in a while, but I have never had mine go into protection from being too hot.

Well after I thought my amp had cooled for a while I turned my car on and everything seemed to be working, but only for a few seconds. After that my 4 channel amp turned off and all I could hear is bass. This problem is really starting to **** me off for every thing was going perfect for the first week after the install. I'm not running too many watts that the car could not handle. I'm only running a 500 watt 2 channel amp and the 200 4 channel amp. Like I said everything was fine until today, what could be the problem and what possible solutions could I try?
Try unplugging the speakers from the amp, turn the amp on, see how long it lasts before it shuts off. If it doesnt turn off, I would check and make sure your wiring is done correctly. Since your amp is not shutting off, just going into protection, its most likely your speakers are wired wrong, or the amp is overheating. The amp could also be broken......not sure exactly. I wont be able to respond till Friday when I get home though, so good luck!

Well I solved the problem. After re checking my wiring (bangs head against the wall) I actually realized that my ground wire was disconnected. It looked like it was connected but after tuggin on it I realized it wasn't. Anyways I reattached it and everything works now. Man I feel so stupid!!! Anyways I want to take thank mystic and the rest of you that provided helpful info.
I'll crawl back in my hole now.

your real lucky the hifonics has that feature.
rockford amplifeirs dont have that protect built in, so when it loses ground, it hunts wherever it cna find one.
a guy came into my shop with that problem, and the amplifier found a new ground through the RCA cables, backfed through teh radio and pow! fried the radio.
so seemingly your amplifier just saved the rest of the stereo
