2008 Civic SI engine and transmission replacement or swap?
Hi everyone, I picked up a 2008 SI (ROLLER ONLY/ NO ENGINE/TRANS). The wiring harness and computer are still attached to the vehicle. I am wanting to put another engine/manual trans back into it. What recommendations do you have on engine and transmission options available to me?
This car is only going to be used for dirt track racing (mini stock series) NO turbos, superchargers. Engine is going to stay mostly stock (unless there are easy upgrades).
I've replaced a D17 engine on my 05 civic manual with ease. I replaced 3 2004 Acura TL engine/trans also.
I have the experience and I am going to do this.
My main question. Do I stick with the K20Z3 and spend time and money looking for that? Or are there other engines available that can drop in without intruding on the wiring and mounts (K24??)? Do I have to use a specific transmission or are their compatible ones I can use? I only use second gear when racing also.
Is the K20Z3 the best performing engine? What others could I use that would be similar but save some money? After speaking with local people, they recommend the K24a2 top and K20 bottom Frankenstein engine.
Thanks for your time in this matter.

Re: 2008 Civic SI engine and transmission replacement or swap?
transmission is mostly finding axles to connect to wheels, or use stock one for the car. Unsure if there are any differences.
You can check with hasport, maybe they did something.

you can also consider getting a J-series, but a lot of work involved (V6)
Only 2nd gear? So you would need to think on other things...

- High rev engines over torque?
- If there are trans with better gear ratios? (not sure if there are, more familiar with older models) Short gearing maybe not good? If you go longer gearing (if they exist) maybe torque will become more important than higher revs.

hasport is the first and most experienced guys to make kits for transplanting engines, just give them a call

I believe all engines and transmissions are cross-compatible (except the K24Z), but there will be some running issues depending on if you get a VTEC engine or not.
