Upgrading Civic question!
Hey guys,
I have a(n) automatic Honda civic EX (1999) with a(n) (D16Y8) engine. It is a SOHC-VTEC engine.
The whole car is at stock performance right now. I would like to start
installing performance parts to gain some more HP. I've been researching
about short ram air intake and a cold air intake system. Its very
clear to me how they work and all but haven't decided what it best for my
car. If I installed either one on my civic I wouldn't stop there by means of
HP. Of course, I don't know how more HP I can really get out of the stock
engine without doing a swap or if that's even necessary in my case. I just
want something to give my car some more oomph,(POWER)! I also searched
a little about (naturally aspirated) on civic-tech forum and I'm considering
going that route. But I don't even know where to start. Can someone please
take the time and help me to understand what is the best route to take as far
as making my car have more oomph, changing out parts so they don't stress
out other parts and blow them out. I know everything takes time and the
need to do it right the first time is evident and very crucial. Im serious about
the process and I don't need advice from amateurs. I need serious opinions
need to talk to someone that know's what they are talking about.
I appreciate all the advice you guys provide to me.
Thanks,
-Zack

Re: Upgrading Civic question!
Why are you putting a space every 2 lines or so?
If you just want to add a little kick then intake, headers and exhaust is about it. Next step after that would be aftermarket camshaft. Then you could step up to a stage 2 or 3 cam which would require head work.
Swap or turbo is going to give you the most power but are more involved. Nitrous is another option if you just want occasional HP for a track.
As far as intake, get whatever you like best. I prefer cold air intakes. They make ones that are both.

Loose weight (seriously, I am talking about the car)
Intakes, exhaust, will get you what? 5hp? Remember that percentage wise it's not negligible.

Don't buy a high end branded intake like I did... I payed $320 for a piece of pipe, because I didn't know what intakes did.
These two do the exact same thing
Ebay $42

K&N $340

Then buy a decent filter to place on the pipe.

Hey sorry I didn't reply as fast throughout the weekend. I was super busy. Thanks everybody for the advice.
At this point I'll just go with the cold air intake. I'll Put some nice wheels and put some fog lights on it. My car is rice! Lol 😂
