Rev Problems

I have a 97 honda civic ex with a d16y8...when my car is just sitting most the time it idles at about 500 rpm. what could cause that?

check for any leaks, check spark plug and wires, check air filter, check distributor rotor
last but not least carb clean the idle control valve.
my car used to bog and shut down at wot when i was driving
when it check the spark plug wires thats connected to distributor cap
there was alot of corrosion

While I have a 7th gen, it idles at 500-750rpm's when not in gear.
