F&F Question. What Is The High Pitched Sound From The Eclipse When It Revs?

I was watching the movie, and before the big race in the beginning, the Eclipse revs, before the nos is opened. It a deep yet high pitched tone. I know what an exhaust sound and intake sounds like, because I have them, and it doesn't sound the same. You can hear him rev twice before they race and the sound I am talkin about is the high pitched one at the end of the rev. Sounds kind of like a chainsaw? I'm not sure, could possibly be one NICE exhaust, but I don't think so. Friends think it was probably the sound of the turbo, or a header.

I think it's the blow-off valve for the turbo.

My friend was talking about Blow Off Valves before, but I don't exactly get it. What is a blowoff valve? He showed me some on ebay for like $200. What does it do?

look under turbochargers at How Stuff Works and you'll find this about blowoff valves...

[*]BOV: Blow Off Valve. Also known as the compressor bypass valve. Under boost, foot off the gas, the turbo is still spinning at high RPM. The BOV The BOV opens and dumps (via the dump tube) the inlet pressure.

Seeing how the car is naturally aspirated, that was without a doubt dubbed in.

The sound is from the turbo and the blow off valve. The blow off valve's purpose is to relieve the flowback of air that your engine does not suck in.

Dude the only Eclipses that were N/A where RS and GS, GST and GSX were both Turbo....and if they spent the money for Supras and RX-7's in that movie, I dont think a GST or GSX would be hard to get....WTF are you smokin

Edit** And you cant put a blow off valve in your 2k1, not unless you got Turbo haha

HeartbreakkiD: I had kinda the same question...

Even though some of you may see this as "rice" but whatever...I love the sound of a turbo! Is there anyway we can get that sound with out actually having a turbo

Turbocharger has a blowoff valve, not a supercharger

you could probably emulate a blowoff valve but that would be pure rice.

How would we emulate the blow off valve? I mean it would be tight as hell! It's not like I'm gonna go down the street telling people I have a turbo...I just love the sound!

I couldn't tell you right now, but i'm sure it can be done somehow. I'll think about it a bit and get back to you. maybe ask some engineers.

Isnt there some sort of "horn" or "speaker" for cars that makes the BOV sound when you rev, without having a Turbo in your car?. I saw it on here awhile ago, really cheezy if you ask me though, but whatever floats your boat.

I don't think it's really worth it for the price, but here's the URL to buy a BOV sound generator.

I was watching that import show on speedvision and they had some kinda exhaust that had something in it to make that emulated turbo sound. I personally would just wait because you would have people wanting to race all the time if they heard that on your car.
