d16y7 problems.

first off, I'm a complete noob, and just got my car 2 months ago. However I'd like to learn how to fix my car independently, Id appreciate the help anyone can give me, and please don't tell me to take it to a mechanic because I'm inexperienced (we all have to start somewhere).

Okay so I know this d16y7 has common issues with the idle erratically going up and down. Recently my idle has been fluctuating and I didn't think much of it, so I kept driving it, but as of yesterday, the engine check light (Malfunction indicator light) popped up. Can someone help me out here?

I know it is the IACV, and I know where it is. Can someone tell me how to take it out? Is it as simple as removing the 4 bolts on the throttle body, then removing the 4 bolts on the IACV, then cleaning it with brake cleaner? I want to take it out, but I'm afraid that If I take it out, I might not know how to put it back together. for example, is there a certain amount of torque that needs to be applied when assembling, or is it just tighten until you cant anymore.

Another thing I read was that it may be the o2 sensor, Ill try fix the IACV problem first, and if that doesnt fix it. Where is the sensor, and what can I do to fix it?

The next problem is also common (from what I have read) there a little bit of oil leaking from the distributor, and it is drippy down. anyone know how to remedy this problem?

Re: d16y7 problems.

Check the code then search what that code is for. You'll have a way better idea of where to start and won't have to spend time fixing something that isn't broken.

Re: d16y7 problems.

how do I check the code?

*edit:
Nvm, got the code. 14 aka IACV.
I guess I'll be cleaning that, if it doesnt work, I'll probably replace it.

Re: d16y7 problems.

Get a Haynes repair manual in any auto store in case you don't have one - will not have everything, but will help you on the easiest ones and you can have it next to you during the work.
