Throttle Cable Adjustment?

I've had my 2000 Si a little over a year. I never really thought about it, but there seems to be a little "dead space" when I push down the accelerator. By that I mean, I push down the pedal, but the gas doesn't respond until a certain point. In my old Corolla, the minute you pushed the pedal, it went. I just popped the hood to check the cable and it seems like it has more slack than it should. Could this be why its been doing this? Thanks for any advice.

I think that has to do with the vtec in the civics, there is that dead spot around 2k to 2.5k in the power band.

Re: Throttle Cable Adjustment?

Thanks for the response, but I don't think that's what I'm asking about. Maybe I should've said gas pedal travel instead. There's not an immediate response with pedal travel until point "x" instead of me just slightly pressing the pedal. I did some searching online and it seems this little dead space in travel is normal though.

I understand what you mean, but it is related. Next time you drive the car and note the rpm's at part throttle (feels dead). Then rev it up high and shift see if there is a difference.

Re: Throttle Cable Adjustment?

Your cable is out of adjustment. Throttle response should be immediate.

Re: Throttle Cable Adjustment?

Okay. I'm going out to mess with it in a few days once I get some other work done.

Re: Throttle Cable Adjustment?

I actually did this 2 nights ago. Still haven't ScottDR back. Basically what you have to do is loosen the locknut, which is the nut towards the passenger's side on the cable. Then move the adjusting nut until there is less slack. Then tighten the locknut back up. Make sure it doesn't idle high once the engine is warm. I messed up the first 2 times and the car had a ridiculous idle. There's a diagram online if you pretty much type in the same thing from google which has a better explanation. My cable freeplay was a little ove 1/2 and inch(max allowed is 1/2). It's now a little under that. No more dead space!
