D17a1 engine swap

Hi new to the forum. In 2 weeks I'm going to be swapping my engine in my 2004 civic dx. I bought a 2005 d17a1 engine complete with wiring harness so it should be plug and play. Just want to make sure because I'm doing the swap 500 miles from home where my car broke down and don't want to run into anything major. Is their any thing I should watch out for while swapping the auto tranny.

Re: D17a1 engine swap

I would suggest getting rid of the engine harness from the replacement and using the stock one from your car. Do both engines have EGR?

Re: D17a1 engine swap

If the original engine does not have EGR but the new one does you will need to swap the coolant passage/EGR manifold along with a new intake manifold gasket. This also means you will need to use the original engine harness and not the one from the new engine. Other than that I believe this will be a direct swap.

It doesn't appear I can read very well. Just reverse what I previously said. It really is as easy as making the new look like the old as Colin states.

Re: D17a1 engine swap

The only difference is EGR and/or VTEC, there should be a vin plate on the engine somewhere, if you can decode that you'll know what kind of car it came out of
