Oil leak

First post here guys
So I just completed a headgasket job on my commuting vehicle and noticed a pretty heavy leak behind the timing cover. I took the crank pulley off and the seal seemed pretty dry but next to it is oily. Here's a pic do you guys think this looks more like a oil pan gasket leak? Also everything above crank looks dry, so I'm not concerned about the cam seal.

Re: Oil leak

Yes...looks like an oil pan leak and that blue oil pan gasket is not the original..it's a Felpro..so, someone replaced it at some point. Use a Honda Genuine (OEM) gasket and apply Hondabond where instructed in the service manual.

Re: Oil leak

Yup I decided to go ahead and replace it, I just removed it. Hopefully I can find a OEM today. I'm pretty sure my honda dealer in town is closed today.

Hopefully, the pan is not bent at any part of the mating surface.

I installed a Felpro Permadry (so they claim) oil pan gasket on a 6th gen a few years ago. Prior to installing it I called and spoke to a Felpro technician and they said to install it dry without RTV/Hondabond regardless what the service manual states. I folllowed his advice and it leaked..it could have been my installation technique (though I followed the service manual minus the RTV in corners) However, I'm pretty confident the SpermaDry gasket dicked me over and did not live up to it's claim.

Re: Oil leak

If your pulling the oil pan off, it would be great time to replace oil pump oring while your in there.

And be sure to use liberal amount of MAF cleaner on that socket and sensor you unplugged.

Some places run multiple shifts and run 7 days a week.
I'm pretty sure the only reason our shop isn't open on Sunday is because our state law forbids car sales on Sunday.
