Need help/ideas for DIY blue gauge needles
Need help/ideas for DIY blue gauge needles
Hi all, I need help figuring out a way to brighten my gauge needles. I tried searching this, but it looks like nobody else has attempted this on their gauges as they just use reverse indiglo gauges instead, or just didn't mention a way around this if they did. As you can see from the pic below, after doing the DIY blue dashlights they are quite dim. Actually, the picture shows them to be much dimmer than they actually are. They are brighter, just not as bright as stock. I've tried scratching the paint on the needles off, which didn't help (I repainted to get the lighting even again). Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I actually took apart one of the needles. It's pretty much broken now, but I've got a new cluster coming soon. Just thought I'd play with it. Turns out that the plastic needle has orange paint on the top portion. Acetone will remove it, but then I noticed the entire piece is orange plastic, not clear. I even tried painting it blue with glass paint, but it was too dim. I've given up hope on this and will just stick with red.
For your problem you may want to spend some money on that red indiglo needle kit. It will make the needles crazy bright. They only have red for our cars for the reasons above.

I just got my 01 sedan cluster in the mail today. Unlike the 02 needles (orange plastic), the 01 has clear needles with orange paint on top. I already acetoned the back and am just leaving it true amber backlight. As for the needles, they will light up blue if I can do this right. I really like amber/blue combo. Oh and at night the amber is VERY bright when compared to putting bulb condoms on.
