help? turn check engine light off

help? turn check engine light off

i recintly did the vtec light and wanted a light to come on when my cooling fan goes on so i tapped off the ecu (maybe not the right one?) and the check engine light came on i put wverything back the way it was the vtec light works fine and i just left the cooling fan light disconnected.....does the check engine light go off when the prob goes away or do you have to reset it cause its still there help please????

thanks...

i just read another post and they said to disconnect the battery to reset the ecu and that made the light go away and it hasnt come back so i hope that means the prob would be gone cause you would think theoritically the light should come on again if there was indeed a problem but thanks for replying

ive had the same problem when i was messing around under the hood installind an intake. check the manual. it says how to make it go away by doing something like holding the odometer button and turning the key and holding it or something. that should clear it up.....

turn off light?

if its the maintenance light yes you can hold that button when you start the car for like 20 sec
but if its the check engine light just remove the negative lead from the battery for bout five min same thing happend to me when i mess with the ecu

You don't have to go through the trouble of disconnecting the negative lead. Just go into the fuse box in the engine compartment and remove the FI fuse for like 5-10 minutes. It cuts the power to the ECU.
