Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
it 'twas about 2,460 without me in it before the strip and about 2,390 after the strip. Both times the car had about a half tank of gas. I drove it there and weighed in, drove home (8miles) and stripped it then came back and weighed again. So 16 miles round trip I figure 'twas prolly about a half a gallon lighter the second weigh in. Oh yeah, not that it makes a whole helluva difference over stock but I have a carbon fiber hood too

moonroof, power windows, power locks, vtec, abs, cd player, painted trims and mirrors, A/C, better gauges with tach, better exhaust system, nicer looking fabric, cruise control, and some other stuff

meh its overrated. makes the car noisier, weighs a ton, and you have to grease it up and constantly clean it. plus it rattles sometimes when the visor isnt sitting in the right place. and you might forget it open in the rain and have a mess later lol

^iono bout you, but my 01's roof is fine...no greese, no noise...sweet sexy sound of wind...
BTW, for the reference, its a MOONROOF...not sun roof...

Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
"Sunroof" is the generic term used to describe an operable panel in a vehicle roof which can let in light and/or air. "Moonroof" is a term created by Ford in the 70s, yet is now used generically to describe glass panel inbuilt electric sunroofs.
"sunroof" is the term originally used to describe a metal panel that would only allow light or air in when opened. A "moonroof," on the other hand, is a glass panel that can allow light in even when it is closed (provided, of course, you slide back that nifty fabric-covered panel to expose the glass).
True sunroofs, those made just of metal, appear to have gone the way of 8-tracks in automobiles, and these days, most "sunroofs" are really "moonroofs" -- panels of tempered glass, usually tinted, that tilt up to allow a flow of air, or slide back into the roof entirely, giving the car occupants a brief but tantalizing glimpse of life in a convertible.

-stripped floor mats and whole interior carpet, then redid my own with lightweight foam and thin grey carpet overlay.
ALSO, gearbox you said stock exhaust is 12lbs and most aftermarket is 20-40lbs....so is this a solution? -http://www.burnsstainless.com/cgi-bi...=SM-225-450-14
I was thinking take off magnaflow muffler and weld this baby on to the magnaflow cat-back exhaust. Any other exhaust saving weight solutions??

Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
yeah if you want weight savings, stick with stock exhaust. its so light you can easily lift it with one finger.
for the carpet, i just cut out the oem stuff (it was nasty dirty) and then got some foam pad from partsexpress.com and put that down. i think its was the 1/2 inch foam, just so you dont have gaps under the body panels. carpet i got from the store, walmart prolly has some. it comes in a roll and says auto carpet. glued that on with 3m spray adhesive. my driver side is getting old and dirty again so im just gonna pull it off and redo that side in the summer. everywhere else looks pretty new.

Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
idk, the stock piece was unusually heavy. maybe 5-10 lbs saved? the foam and new carpet is almost like nothing. im thinking about removing the moonroof drainage system too cause i dont understand when it will ever be useful, unless the roof is left open in the rain (in which case, interior is ruined anyway). i think i may remove the cover door too since i always leave it open, and it has alot of stains on it that dont look good.

Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
well the car is still really loud, mostly from the stupid moonroof hole tho. i need to stuff some foam up there too cause its just sheet metal and empty space. but no the car did not get much louder after the carpet switch. just keep in mind that if you diy, it will not be a full molded carpet piece to fit every inch of the car. so you will have some areas (like under the seats) with metal showing. the reason i did it was cost and ease of replacement cause my driver side always gets ruined after a year or two. and carpet roles are dirt cheap to just cut and stick a new piece, instead of paying hundreds for a new oem everytime and then spending all day putting it in with the interior gutted.

Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
im slowly tearing out the old dynamat in the door panels, that will prolly end up being 10 lbs. im gonna look for something lighter like the 3m insulation if i come across any. i still have alot of dynamat on the floors too but im not gonna bother trying to take it out. too much problem lol, and its still in good shape. then redo the door panel fabrics.
