Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
Honestly, I havent spent all that much money on this car. The most cash I ever dropped at once was 450 for a full suspension (springs struts nad camber correction). The rest of the stuff is just stupid crap that has added up over time, but actual money paid wasnt that much.
Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
im also with Clint on this idea!
i like my interior bitz and pieces, stereo, etc...
but to shed a 100 or so pounds may shed off a fraction of a second on your 1/4 mi. time?
i can see leaving a big soundsystem out, or pulling the A/C out but thats about it!
Powersteering, i wouldnt recommend that neither. May aswell go buy an old beater that never came with PS and try it out for a week.

Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
Definately so. All I have is a bathroom scale though, so some of the smaller stuff I will have to guesstimate on. Im gona weigh the sub and stuff tomorrow, I duno how much it was, but the car feel better without it. Im hoping to drop 200 or so with all of this crap, I hope it can actually be done. The exhaust should help a bit as well and so should the intake (had it on before and did feel a difference right around the 4500RPM area all the way to redline. If I can get it into the high 15s, I will be a happy man for the time being.
Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
well, i know that when i installed my soundsystem alone in the trunk which included:
MDF sub-box, prefab, vented,computer spec
x2 12" subs
Amplifier
Capacitor
this alone weighed in around or close to 200lb, and yes...it could be noticed performance-wise. This is why i opted to remove it not to long after it was installed. It made an enormous impact on the overall output, but i know its cus the poor lil 1800cc engine just couldnt pull that weight around trying to gun it. Its like having a passenger in the car at all times, then put that same passengers in the car and the car bogs out.

Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
lol. Nah, im still dwelling on the crash bar idea, I know its a shady area to step into. I dont know if you are familiar with drag cars, but some of them have the holes in the back bumpers to reduce drag. Well I may do the same thing with the crash bars. I will drill out sections (one to start, weigh it, and go from there), so the rigidity will be there, just not all of the weight. I know my buddy got some JDM bumper beams for his subie, that only weigh 7lbs a piece compared to 30ish stock, I dont think this is available for our cars though. They may come out, they may not, I have to think it over since its a bit of an issue, more so than removing the AC systemwell, i know that when i installed my soundsystem alone in the trunk which included:

New years resolution man lol. as far as the spare issue. I tried to take it out but the screw wouldnt come loose so I hit it cause I thought it was rusted in (like everything else on my ****ing car) and it broke from its mounting place. Now the spare is stuck, and me and my friends have to cut it to be able to get the spare out, so basically at this point, me keeping the spare in there is pointless too because I wouldnt be able to get it out even if I needed it lol.

Let me know the first time you fight a nice corner at 50-60 mph and then have to do anything besides turn without power steering. Like brake and make additional corrections to avoid something. The car will fight you and try to **** you. It's just not worth it because our rack is designed for power steering. Strip off all the superfluous stuff absolutely, but please don't **** with safety features on your car.

Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
some things shouldnt be touched imho as speedfoos mentioned!
i know its frustrating trying to squeeze as much as possible from these hondas, but by removing saftey features is just a bad idea bro'
id hate to see you get hurt in the end all because of 10-20lbs or so?
only thing i touched on the gts-t was removing the HICAS, which in my case was because i didnt want the damn car to correct itself everytime i tried to get the rear to come out from me in a drift, etc...
other then that...i wont be messing with steering components.
id rather have a car that controls the road, not the road controlling me.

for removing the spare, anyone heard of a cell phone? and towing company? lol. the only time i throw the spare in the car is on long trips out of the city. otherwise i think almost every insurance (or cheap aaa) has great towing. btw, ive had my car 6 yrs almost and NEVER was in a situation where i actually had a flat and couldnt drive the car.

Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
um but that can explode lol. and it ruins the tire you spray it into. i had a can but threw it out.
Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
i just don't understand all of this for a car that will be driven frequently, a car with essentially no engine work. i'm not cutting up my car unless someone is paying me to do it or it's actually functional without compromising too much comfort/safety.
in addition to compromising safety, cutting off your crash bars will definitely lower resale when you go to sell your car, unless you're dishonest and don't bother to say anything about them.
removing your spare and jack, i see nothing wrong with that. as gearbox stated, we have cell phones. i dont have a spare at all but i also have never had a flat tire in my life.
power steering i'm still indifferent about. i don't have power steering and haven't for awhile, but it's nice to have in parking lots. my car really isnt hard to turn at all. i weigh 160 pounds so you can get an idea about my size. i've been in many squirrely situations and handled them fine without power steering. i also go over my steering components every time i do an oil change and make sure all is in order.
a/c, whatever. i never used mine either in any of the cars i've owned. my current car has no a/c, last car i had, someone crashed into it and crushed the condenser so i said **** it. cleans up the bay when it's gone.
maybe you'd be better off with some lighter wheels and maybe a tad bit lighter flywheel to make your car feel a bit zippy? i just don't think you're going to get the desired results from what you're trying to do.

Re: Free Performance: A weight loss plan for her
AAA will tow your car. When you call, tell them you need a flat bed and hope you dont get a ******** tow truck driver. You should never use anything but a flatbed when towing our cars.
And by the way, i just gutted my entire interior tonight. I only have a drivers seat in right now. No, i dont want it that way, but my new carpet came in from Honda today so I had to take everything out and I didnt have time to put it back in tonight. If you wanna see pics or have anything weighed, let me know...everythings going back in tomorrow.
