did you adjust the dimmer switch on the cluster? it might just be low and it has memory for both lights on and off. so you can have it bright during the day and dim at night when the lights are on.
New to the forums!! just bought an 04 civic last month and looking to make some improvements.
Alright so I did my reading on cluster swaps as much as I could. I have a 2004 Civic Value (DX) with 5-speed manual.
I want to buy a 2004 EX dash cluster to replace it with. Just would like two questions answered:
1.) Am I going to have to reset that "SRS" light, or whatever everyone else was talking about? or is that if I screw something up?
2.) What is a Speedo shop? Do I have one of t hose around here? what would be a speedo shop in your area, and how much do they normally charge? We have a Honda garage, would they do it there? I would really like my mileage to stay at 10,400 and not 40,000 from some guy who just travelled from California to New York 3 times in a year.
Thanks a bunch!

I just picked up a cluster for my 01 EX. However, I noticed that near the numbers around speedo and tach some of them have red trim and others with blue. Did Honda change colors for different years or are they from two different models?

i like red better and yes the red is from the coupe (also has slanty numbers) and sedan is blue. Its easier to match the red cluster with dash lights.
my sedan dash. also the alpine 9847 deck matches perfectly

Other than that i have only one problem. The lights on the three dials next to my headunit dont light up anymore. I must have mixed up a wire or left it out somehow. Thanks for your help

no way too complicated and half of it wouldn't even work work the ima. kinda stupid imo and i'm sure the wires are different too. so maybe you could look at the diagrams and make a diy, but you still have only part of the cluster working.
Bringing the thread back... sorry
Ive had my 03 ex cluster in for a month now and still havent fixed my problem.
Climate lights dont come on when head lights are on
ABs light is always on
ABS should be easy to fix by just grounding that wire, but i do not know which wire the abs is
Also, for the climate control lights on the dash, i need to know what wire from the 01 dx goes to them, and what wire from the ex cluster it should be connected to. I kind of did a wierd swap, I cut the plugs off from my car (01 dx) and found plugs with wires all ready in them from a 03 ex and spliced them to my car. heres a picture of it so you can get what im saying.
Any help would be great. thanks

is your dimmer turned up? simple fix for abs is put electrical tape behind the icon. thats what i did for cruise cause i didn't like the green color. if you follow the diagram, it should work. the only problem i had was the oil light doesn't work. maybe a problem with the cluster cause i have the wire connected and the other two lights work that are connected to it...
Yeah, im not worried about the abd light, i have figured out how to turn it off by grounding it.
Ive checked the dimmer (your talking about the dimmer on the cluster it self right) ive turned it all the way up and down and the climate control lights never come on.
I guess i need to figure out what wire from the car goes to those lights and what wire from the cluster is suppoed to supply them with light.

i remember the red/black being power that turns on with the parking lights but does not dim. well the wires ARE the same because they are the same wires in your car. all you did was put them in different pins (because the new cluster has a different pin layout). the wire function stays the same.
Ok, well this is what i got. wiring from 01 DX and wiring from 03. Anything that is grayed out is not used on the other one. The orange one is for abs and is obvisouly not in a dx or lx therefore it is not used, you should be able to ground that wire to turn it off.

Wow, this is a good thread. I'm up the road in Austin, with my 01 LX. If I ever get around to getting an 03 LX cluster, could I hit you up for some wiring help? I'll make a drive to Houston for a weekend to come back with a cool looking cluster
You definitely seem to know your stuff.

Still never got my abs light turned off. What is the correct pin location for the (Blue/Red) ABS Control unit on the 2003 EX. Thanks. Once i can find out what pin location it should go in I can ground it and the light will turn off.

yup! all you have to do is re-pin the connectors. pull out wires and put em in different positions. then it just plugs in. look at the wire diagram. but if you want a direct swap, only 01-02 will swap without rewiring. Or you can just wait til I make some nice looking clusters. I'm getting two dx/vp clusters in that i'm gonna make indiglo gauge for and also custom one up in blue leds and everything
