Exclamation Grrrr... glow gauges are not turning on... help!

Sorry for posting a second board about this. I took the red wire going out of the glow gauges, cut thru the red/black wire, and wrapped the red wire around it. Then I used electrical tape around that. I took my black cable and tied it around a screw. Turned on my headlights and they will not turn on. It came with a little On/off switch, and that didnt help either.

Hey dude post a pic of how you've got it all connected. Did you try connecting the gauge faces to different plugs coming out of the inverter/control unit?
Try a different ground point, see if that helps too. Worst case scenario the control unit that came with your gauges is bad.

If I had a camera, I would. If I can find one, I'll post up pics.

When I cut the red/black wire, I cut about half an inch off. Does the entire metal wire part of the red wire from the gauges need to be touching the red/black wire, or just some tip?

I did try every single plug, and I reconnected the on/off button, and pressed on the button many times.

My ground was just wrapped around the gauge cluster screw. Does the screw need to be screwed in?

Thanks

can't hurt to try and put the screw where it's supposed to go.

correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't the right wire to tap the red one not the red/black?
i exposed about an inch from the wire for the gauges and wrapped it around the wire you're supposed to tap and then wrapped it with electrical tape.

sorry, been a while since i looked behind my cluster.

Are you sure you've got a proper ground? You need to have the ring termial pressed up against some bare metal or find a ground in your wiring harness somewhere. I bet you that that's what the problem is.

They are brand new gauges. Needle lights come on, but the gauge doesnt.

Dude, you need a ring terminal attached to the end of the black wire, or at least tighten the screw down with some exposed wire on it.

This is a ring terminal:

Awesome, thanks for the help, I got it all done. But the sucky part is that I have to press the on button AFTER turning on my headlights to get the glow gauges to turn on I mounted the little green on/off button where that steering wheel height lever is.

Find a good ground and make sure your connection to the red/black wire is solid. If you can't find a good ground in the gauge cluster area there are tons of bolts you can use under the dash near the steering column, or even in the center console behind the stereo.

Meh, my gauge cluster screws are all somewhere within my dash. I have to open up my dash to find the screws so my grounds can work perfect.
