headlight bulb wattage question?
I know our stock bulbs are 65/55 watts. Can we use anything higher like 80/100 watt bulbs without melting the headlight harness?

Ofcourse. But they will be illegal, and you will need a better wire harness from www.suvlights.com

There's more to consider than melting the harness. The bulbs also put out more heat which can cause the headlamp housing to melt. A wire harness upgrade doesn't address this problem. The only guarantee that you will be safe is if you stick to the stock wattage. Higher wattage headlamps may be okay at highway speeds due to air cooling of the lamp housing, but it may melt when you're at a prolonged stop.

good point. however, i have the nokyas also in my fog lights and they're fine. The nokya are rated higher than they really are. Look on the package and see what the actual wattage is.

well i know it says that, but then it also says stock wattage. I checked my fog bulbs and it doesn't even say the actual wattage, only that its "stock." the advertised wattage is what they simulate, not the real value.

sorry to crash your thread, but I have a question... I bought a pair of nokya artic white and they are 100/120w and on the side it says nokya wiring harness recommended... so does that means I cant use these bulbs without a wiring harness?

those will melt your harness. i got a new thicker one for my stock headlights and they are a bit brighter. Thats what you would need but again remember the headlights might melt from the heat even if the wires are heavy duty. www.suvlights.com

with the upgraded harness? i don't think so. the one i have has thicker wire all around and better relays. its not too noticable, but driving next to another car with stock bulbs, mine has a whiter tint.

well it does for regular halogen, assuming the bulbs aren't coated. just putting a new wire harness on stock bulbs i noticed mine look whiter than the average car but not the rice white.
