***** freaking ENGINE WHINE, AHHHHHH!!!!...

i had that damn engine whine sound coming from the speakers stopped a while ago, and now, all of the sudden, its back.
my 4 guage power wire is run down the passengers side. all of my speaker wire is run down the drivers side and its in that split loom stuff. finally, all of my rca's are run down, under the carpet, along the center console ( my rca's are really thick, if i ran them with the speaker wire, the plastic trim pieces wouldn't go back on ). and for ground, i used the bolt that honda used to secure the back seat ( and yes, i stripped off any paint around the area ).
i just dont get it, it was gone for a while ( few months ) and now, all the sudden, its back. anymore suggestions on fixing this? another week of this, i might go crazy.

is it true if you run the power cable on the passenger side u will get whine, is it better to run the power cable on the driver side

Potentially bad ground.... make sure it's real secure
There is also a fuse box on the drivers side which might
screw somthing up, I dunno. Make sure yer power and
speaker wires arn't crossing too much. Perhaps some of yer
wires may have gone bad...... it happens somtimes. Check
all of your connections. Check yer HU's harness too.
And no, running power down passanger won't give you
a whine. Yer speakers and RCA's being on the driver's side
may give you interferance tho because of the fuse box that is
on the driver's side.

check your ground, and check if anything near your power wire is potentially causing interference.

good call....dont ground the head unit in the factory harness....always run it to a chassis ground like you would an amp.

anything can cause interferrence in an RCA cable..... like say... maybe a fuel pump that sits rught under the backseats in teh center, where you said you ran yoru RCA's?.......

gotta run that cable away from any source interferrence, that means any large electrical device in your car. trace rou rca's see where they take you.

thanks for the suggestions. i guess i will try regrounding the HU first, that seems to be the most logical solution right now, along with whiterabbit's suggestion to keep RCA's away from the fuel pump ( but i did make sure and route the RCA's around the fuel pump, but i will make sure on that one again ).
any reasons on why it went away, and then came back all of the sudden? i mean, it was there, then i did some wire organizing, and it was gone, now its back, that just doesn't make any sense to me.

btw, where would be a good place to ground the HU?

there's several bolts behind where the HU is that are connected to the chassis, pick one of those and you should be good.

i had a problem with engine noise where my power wire was near my a/c compressor and would make noise when my a/c was on and only when it was on. i fixed it by moving the wire away from there.

Take a dremel or some sand paper and take all the paint and other crap off the metal area that you are grounding it at.. that might help alittle bit

What kind of headunit are you using? Eclipse head units have a little metal box wired to the back of the unit, this little box needs to be as far away from rcs cables and wires as possible, i originally made sure my little box was far away from stuff, but driving fast around turns and screwing around made it move closer to my rca's and my whining came back, i had to take my dash apart again and i secured it off to the side, it solved it for me, there can be hundreds of sources for noise in a system (so i have read)...it's a pain finding whats causing your own

on the way to school this morning, no whine. i was on the interstate, cruising at 75mph with rpms at 3k, and no whine at all, even when i revved the engine to past 4k, there was nothing. BUT, on the way home from school just 10 minutes ago, damn whine again.
also, if this helps, i had the engine whine with my old HU ( pioneer deh-7400mp ) and a couple weeks ago, i got the clarion dxz835mp, and the whine was still there, so i'm sure its not the HU, but maybe something from the factory wiring harness.
i have time this coming weekend to mess with it, so i'll post results then.

more likely is when you take turns, one of your grounds became a little loose and the whine returned. or a wire moved closer to a noise source. etc.

I had a 85 Chevy Capriec Classic and had a damn whine in it. I got my Vic and put the system in there I have a whine in it. I got some RCA filters and hooked them up to the 4 channel and it got rid of it in the front but you could hear it in the back a little. So I got a filter for the back speakers and hooked them up. It worked fine.................... until I turned the music up loud the it sounded like my speakers were popping so I played artound with the filters. I figured out that with both of the filters hooked up t the amp it caused some sort or interference so I took one out ( the one to the rear speakers ) now I have no whine in the front but I do in the back but just barely. I have noticed though that when I turn on the AC it gets a little louder. I dunno my freind had a vic and has the same problem.

Get an (SNI1 RCA Filter) I think is what it is called and see how that works for you.

For some cases, isn't it better to run a wire for the HU's ground to the same point that the amp is grounded at?

if the amp's under the seat, then it might be a good idea. but not for the trunk. a ground wire should be short, esp. for the head unit.
