I have a decent sized rust spot on my passenger door (didn't know about the scratch for awhile...its on the passenger side...). Are there any chemicals that I could treat it with to eat away the rust? I would like to do that so I could touch it up a bit.

The warranty. Provided of course that there's less than 36K on the car... there's a warranty on body panel rust. I don't know if you can chemically treat it and eliminate it. I know steel wool or scotchbrite will get the job done, but you'll need to paint it after that.

if you have some dents, id just go to a body shop and have it fixed. you're right, that wouldnt be covered under warranty.

Yes I would go to the dealership and give it a try and see if they can or will do anything for you, its worth a shot. And if not then you should take it to a shop somewhere ASAP, that stuff is cancer to cars and will only get worse.

yea, i thought the warrenty covers rust. i could've swore that the pple told me it was covered. cuz rust.. thats like old school. anywho, take it bak, i hope they fix it for you!

If it's caused by a dent or scratch I doubt it i'll be covered by warranty because when you dent your car or scratch it it rusts faster than normal, my physic teacher told me something about dents and oxidization for some reason it affects the area that is dented and will deteriorate faster can't remember why though.

0o0o.. i didn't know that! i really thought rust was like a thing of the past, i guess not. so i guess what the dealer meant is they'll cover it if it starts rusting by itself? hmm.. hahaha

Correct, if it starts rusting by itself they would have to cover it under warrenty. But in my case it is a scratch that left the metal exposed. I figured it would be ok if I just somehow removed the rust and went over it with some touch up paint. Has anybody used the touch up paint before?

Directions

For general cleaning of iron and steel, apply full strength with a paint brush, roller or sponge. Allow a dwell time of 5 to 20 minutes depending on the amount of rust to be removed. If heavy encrustations are present, use a wire brush to clean before applying. In severe conditions, it may be necessary to apply Naval Jelly several times. If this occurs, allow a longer dwell time, overnight if possible.
