Delayed start?

Hi all. Have 2013 Civic LX with 431,000 miles on it. After the orginal starter went bad April 2023, I replaced it with one from Autozone (Duralast 19470). It's been working well until now. Lately, I've been experiencing a significant delay in starting. When the car has been recently used (within 2 hours or so) it starts up fine. HOWEVER, if its been sitting all day or night it takes about 3 seconds to crank. What I mean is that I'll turn the key and hold it there in the start position and hear nothing for approximately 1-3 seconds (I've been counting to see if theres a trend). Then all of a sudden it roars to life like nothing ever happened. This morning, it took a good 5 seconds for anything to happen. It's a bit perplexing. Any ideas?

BTW, the battery tests good (a year old, too), all the electrical components work and appropriate cluster lights come in when the key is turned, just no immediate start as one would expect.

Re: Delayed start?

I just came to this forum to post practically the same issue. Mine usually is: *crank crank crank crank* quit (because I give it up). Recrank, "vroom", it starts. Starter is only a couple years old, I replaced the original because it went bad, alternator is new, battery is new. I think it has something to do with the fuel line.

Re: Delayed start?

If you're still on the original fuel pump, that's probably where I'm looking next.

I suspect it. It's not enough of a problem for me to work on, but I will keep it in mind.

Re: Delayed start?

Cycle the key on and off a few times and see if it fires up faster (primes the system). Sounds like a weak fuel pump.
