Vtec-E

hello, anybody know if i can replace a VTEC-E head (PLE3) with a regular VTEC? Is wiring
for VTEC solenoid the same? VTEC-E was on the HX version and configured for high mileage. THANKS

Re: Vtec-E

You could change it. You’ll need an accompanying wiring harness and ECU. I don’t believe the solenoid is the same either.

I wish I could see what subthread this is (thanks mobile). I keep forgetting 7th gen has an HX and immediately think 6th.

Re: Vtec-E

vtec-e is lean burn so i don't think you would find that in EX. EX is built for power which is why you only get 28mpg compared to HX 40mpg

not on 7th gen cars.
what year is your car?

for 7th gen cars, EX/HX are SOHC head. both works as 3 valve per cylinder at low loads/RPM. When loads or RPM increases, it shifts to 4 valves per cylinder.

Re: Vtec-E

A PLE3 cylinder head corresponds to a 7th gen, but it looks to be for the D17A1. That's all I can find, anyway.

My reading does suggest there is a lean burn D17, called the A6.

Re: Vtec-E

the main differences are likely
  1. the additional o2 sensor
  2. ECU.
  3. camshaft (different part number)

Re: Vtec-E

I don't think so, but I can't find anything to identify the differences. I'm sure there's some cam profile difference between the two, but it should be usable nonetheless.
