Rep Power: 0 Engine Codes and VTEC-E Confusion
Just an FYI for everyone out there. Seems to be the general consensus that the EX comes with VTEC and the HX comes with VTEC-E. To set the record straight they're both the same. The HX merely adds the ability to lean-burn...which is why it has an A/F Ratio sensor (like the Si & RSX).
The VTEC in the EX is also VTEC-E. Here ya go:
2002 Honda Civic DX: 1.7L SOHC 16-valve I4 ULEV-certified engine (D17A1)
2002 Honda Civic LX: 1.7L SOHC 16-valve I4 ULEV-certified engine (D17A1)
2002 Honda Civic EX: 1.7L SOHC VTEC-E 16-valve I4 ULEV-certified engine (D17A2)
2002 Honda Civic HX: 1.7L SOHC VTEC-E "Lean Burn" 16-valve I4 ULEV-certified engine (D17A6)
The VTEC in the EX is also VTEC-E. Here ya go:
2002 Honda Civic DX: 1.7L SOHC 16-valve I4 ULEV-certified engine (D17A1)
2002 Honda Civic LX: 1.7L SOHC 16-valve I4 ULEV-certified engine (D17A1)
2002 Honda Civic EX: 1.7L SOHC VTEC-E 16-valve I4 ULEV-certified engine (D17A2)
2002 Honda Civic HX: 1.7L SOHC VTEC-E "Lean Burn" 16-valve I4 ULEV-certified engine (D17A6)

Rep Power: 0 I was thinking the same thing actually. If we could get a competent chip programmer to do it then I'd say yes, but it's doubtful that will ever happen. No one buys an HX to "go fast".

Rep Power: 0 Good, you can add power adders to the HX 5-speed w/o worry. CVTs need to be beefed up to handle higher output. There's a couple members here that have added I/H/E and nitrous with good results.

Rep Power: 0 Hmmm, I was under the impression that the HX had either an additional one or knock sensor. I could be wrong. I'm trying to learn as much as possible about the lean-burn system, and it just seemed obvious to me that Honda would use something to prevent predetonation from leaning it out too much.
