Vtec??
ok i have to questions one would be do all VTECs operate somewhat like this
Here are the specs on what it takes to activate VTEC
or just ours
and two would be can i tap into the VTEC solenoid for a LED telling me when my "VTEC" engages?
Thank you
Here are the specs on what it takes to activate VTEC
1 Your MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor must read 0hg (aka 0 inches of vacuum). When it reads this it will send a 3volt signal to the ECU.
2. Your throttle has to be open 100% because your TPS sensor has to send a 4.5-volt signal to the ECU.
3. Your coolant temp has to be at running temp.
4. Vehicle speed has to be above 20mph.
5. You have to have 65-80 oil psi.
6. The engine must be running at a minimum of 4500 RPM
When all of this happens your ECU sends a 12-volt signal to your VTEC solenoid.

You should be awarw that 7th gens 01-05 have a VTEC-E setup not a SOHC VTEC like you want info for. They are a bit different and are economy based, not as much to be made up top, like older vtec versions. Hope I helped a little. You should do a search for vtec, or vtec-e on the forums, check around everything you need to know is here. Or you could always pm gearbox, he might be able to explain it better than the website can!!!!

The d17a2 works the same as the k20a3 VTEC-E works only with one cam not two. (base RSX or EP3 NOT Type-S)
I made a huge post 2 years ago going over this, search in the Tech Section Stickies to find it.
Here is a link to hondatas explanation of it. (k20a3)

Also regular SOHC VTEC is nothing to rant an rave about my girl has a 2000 civic ex and it is week.
Not much. It dosn't have to be to running temp like regular VTEC, or at high rpm or higher manifold pressure. All it has to do is go over 3000 or so RPM and bingo its on. Below 3000 the engine is only opening 12-valves all the way and cracking open 4 so fuel dosent puddle there. After 3k or so all 16 valves open all the way. The d17a2 was designed for, emissions and economy.

ok no that isnt what i was asking what im asking is for all vtec does it have to be full throtle and spcified oil psi and all that other crap or is it only our vtecs on the em vtec-e
I don't know about the PSI and Full throttle, however I have driven in an older Prelude with a 220 hp VTEC that had a computer screen that controlled at what RPMs VTEC kicked in. On faster cars VTEC usually kicks in around 5200 RPM instead of the civic/acura EL 4500. That same guy who owned the prelude took me for a ride in his japanese version Integra with the GSR chip, and it had two seperate VTEC points. Meaning at a lower rev (3000 rpm?) it opened up one set of valves, and at a higher rev (5200) it opened up the remaining set of valves.
So to answer your question, no not all of those specs are for every car, and as was said before, if you drive in a higher end car you'll realise that VTEC in the civic is nothing compared to other cars.

Yes it is possible, will it be accurate? maybe. It is cool for a whole 2 days then you get tired of it and like so many others who have do it.. you will cover it up because it has begun to annoy you.

what you posted in the first thread is correct for our D17 vtec, that was all found using a data logger. i know with the older vtec, you did not need full throttle, and the rpm was different too. I've heard of someone messing up their car by doing a vtec light.
