Just received a gift 2009 civic but
My daughter bought a new car and needed space in her drive way, so I picked up the car last week. On the 2nd time driving it I went to HEB for grocery and put $10 dollar of gas to use tomorrow to take my brother in law for his first ever driving test. The very next day the car would start up then die within a second, it has 150 thousand miles and its the 1.3 L Hybrid IMA, I thinking fuel pump so I check the interior fuse #2 fuel pump and its good so I listen for sounds from the fuel pump with key at #2 position no sound. So I watched a couple of You Tube videos and removed the back seat and WOW saw the warning of death on the High Voltage battery but the fuel pump is under this danger zone so I went back saw more videos then took my Flute meter turned the breaker off and tested the HV battery and in DC got 1.6 volts reading so I switch to AC and got no reading I turned the breaker back on and still the same reading.so I connected the meter to the battery under the hood and got 12 volts, connected to a electrical outlet got 110 volts ac, the meter is good. Now thinking has my daughter been driving this Honda with a dead HV battery, is this possible, am I testing this thing right, is this why it starts then dies. Well I still have to know is the fuel pump working, It took me and my brother in-law over 6 hours (3 hours yesterday, 3 hours today) and we totally removed HV battery and frame out of car, I took a rubber hose and connected to the top the fuel pump then into a empty water bottle, turn key to start and it filled the bottle half way in seconds. All this work and still dont know why it wont run, is it the HV battery with the 1.6 volts, well I took a sniff of the gas in the bottle and it was weak I then took a taste and no burning sensation on my lips. I then went to my shed and put the gas I use for lawn mowers to my lips and it burn immediately and the smell of the mower gas was strong and darker color. Did I get some bad gas, well tomorrow I hope I can drain the gas add some back and see if it will run, but my question is, can I use this car with a dead HV battery or what else do I have to disconnect, I know I will have the IMA light on in the instrument panel no problem my brother in law will be driving it, it will be his first car ever at 66 years old....will give an update on this free car...
Re: Just received a gift 2009 civic but
I removed about 9 gallons and refill with 10 gallons, turned the key and its ran for about 5 seconds, turn the key again ran for 10 seconds, After about 8 restarts the car idle like a new machine, I'm sure cleaning the throttle body and pgr valve a couple of day before helped getting a smooth idle. So tomorrow I'll reconnect the hv battery and back seat, by brother in law got his driver license Tuesday so he's ready to hit the road, I dont think I'm going to worry about the 1.6 volt reading in the hv battery it must have quite a number of dead cells and we live outside of town where the speed limit average is 45 mph.. Thanks to sdaidoji for the reply
