So..61,000 miles and quit

Hello...I have a 2002 Civic coupe with an automatic trans, just over 61k miles.Last week it started to make a whining/squealing sound, I thought it was the alternator going bad---wrong! My son had it out and said it was shifting bad, I checked the fluid, it was a little low but in the safe zone. I went for a drive and when it shifted from 2nd to 3rd it slipped a lot.Topped off the fluid and the whining got not as loud. -Next day took a while to engage when coming out of park, forward or reverse and slipped through the gears--Today no motion in any gear. Before I bought it it was involved in a front end crash and the front motor mount is no longer bolted to the motor it is welded. Is that piece between the motor and trans like a bellhousing or is it the torque converter case? The end question here - when the trans gets rebuilt will that need to be replaced? Here is a pic before it was welded looking down from the drivers side,I don't have any of it welded. Thanks!

Umm yeah. I'd probably be using some coin to buy a reman trans. I personally would never trust a weld on something like that.

That's broke next to where the block and trans housing meet.

I thought those pics looked familiar.
Back in April I said this:

But if it doesn't work, you needed a trans to fix it anyway.

It really sucks donkey ***** to find out your cheapazz ideas didn't work and now you have to do it all over again.
PLUS you now own a wrong or junk trans.

With that said.....
Won't work.
You are limited to 01-05 Civic.
You might be further limited to DX/LX, but I can't tell you that for sure.
Verify that with a wrecking yard, have them look it up in a Hollander Interchange guide.
And look on

(I noticed a LOT that were listed have case damage.)

If you want a quality reman with some kind of warranty and not a junkyard unit, try a dealer sourced remanufactured transmission.....

My "cheapazz" idea is working, the weld didn't fail...the trans did=different issue. The part numbers are the same for that case on a 2002 and 2000. Doesn't matter anyway..that one was sold. With the history of these transmissions I wouldn't throw one from a junkyard in with out having it freshened at least a little bit. I'll call around locally tomorrow.

I don't have access to an interchange guide myself. I just saw the part numbers for a complete trans were different between 00 and 02.

DX/LX are different from EX on the 02, but i still can't tell exactly what.
If gear ratios are different, it will not work. The PCM will code for gear ratio errors.

A proper tig weld will work.
You need to find someone who does it for a living.

DX/LX had a different gear ratio than an EX. EX is shorter so it will "feel" sportier

Re: So..61,000 miles and quit

Its rollin again...turns out,as expected the welding was ok, but the case was cracked on the inside and some internal parts had failed/ broken. Needed to get a new case....OUCH!! But it's rebuilt and shifting like a new car-as it should with all that $$ put out.
