Problems Re-attaching tie rod to strut

Hey, what's up? I need some advice on how to re-attach my tie-rod end to my strut assembly. The screw on the tie-rod end, the threading is stripped and when I tried to re-attach the nut it just keeps spinning. I tried using needle nosed vice grips to keep it from moving; didn't work. Someone suggested I use anti-seize and jack up the end of the tie-rod just enough to keep it from moving which I think would work if my jack went that high lol

My next plan is trying some anti-seize and use a c-clamp, I just don't want to destroy the end of the tie-rod...

any other suggestions?

The jack up method is the best method. Find a piece of wood to stick under the jack so you can get enough height.

The screw on the tie-rod end, the threading is stripped and when

YOU ARE A DANGER TO YOURSELF, YOUR PASSENGERS, AND EVERYONE AROUND YOU ON THE ROADS.

DO IT RIGHT.
REPLACE IT.
END OF STORY.

MY CAPS LOCK IS NOT BROKEN.

Threads stripped on the stud where the cotter pin goes through?

Junk it before you kill someone.
ALSO, if this has been run loose for a while, it has PROBABLY beat the taper out of the steering arm on the strut (or knuckle on other cars)

Tapered fits must match properly, or they can't wedge themselves together the way it was intended. They will come loose repeatedly or never fit tight in the first place.

Re: Problems Re-attaching tie rod to strut

maybe I shouldn't have said stripped, there is plenty of threading on it all the way up, its just not catching. the threading is definitely not quite right. but getting the tie rod out in the first place was an issue because it was properly mounted. it wasn't loose and there isn't any excessive play.

damn... didn't want to have to get into that tho...

thanks.

It's not an expensive part. Might as well replace it now while your here.
