Car randomly won't start sometimes

About 5 times in the past 2 years and 3 times in the past 4 months I will go to start my car after already driving it someplace that day, and it will crank but the engine won't start. I usually just have to wait a while and try again and it will work. It never does that on the first run of the day and it has mainly done it on days that were humid. Does anyone know the cause of this bc I took it in to get that looked at, and the diagnostic tests came back ok, and they couldn't recreate the problem so they didn't do anything.

I have had the same problem, so I bought remote start for my 5 speed. What you have to do is take the key all the way out and put it back in and it starts up perfectly.

The immobilizer does that sometimes. Yes, the key has to be far enough away from the transponder ring so it can reset. That's why you have to completely remove the key to try again. A pain, if you are planning a fast getaway

that makes sense bc the imobilizer shuts off fuel injection, so that makes sense that it would crank and not start bc it was getting no fuel. Is there anythay that can be done to fix it?

Try your other key, and pay attention if the green "KEY" flashes in the cluster when it won't start. If it flashes, It didn't read the microchip in the key. I found that if I was in a rush and stuck the key in and turned it right away, the Immobilizer did not have enough time to read the key yet. So now I give it 2 or 3 seconds before I start the car. So far it has worked right every time.

If your problem continues, you may need to replace the unit.

yea i tried to briefly recreate it by putting the key in really fast and starting it twice, and it didn't happen. I will have to keep trying everytime i drive to see if that is truley the problem, and know that i know what it most likely is, that green light will come in handy, too bad I never thought to look at it before.

My Two cents for this problem. I discovered that I had this same problem after I got a remote start added to my car and they added a module to remember the transponder code. I find that with Remote start the car works fine, No problem at all. but sometimes when I start with the key it just cranks. If i put the key in and wait 1 to 2 seconds before i crank then it starts fine, if i crank right away it just keeps cranking and wont start until i pull the key out and put it in again. Maybe for some reason it reads two codes? one from the module that was added and then another from the key? or for some reason the chip in the key is not getting fully charged at times that it does not start (because if you go through your honda owners manual it says the key charges when you put the key in your ignition.). Whos knows. but it is Annoying no matter what the cause.

ok, i've noticed this problem too and it usually happens if the car has already been driven; then on the return trip, the engine wont start right away.

it happened to me twice this week and both times i was already sitting in the car with the key in the "on" position for more than 10minutes. both times i had the cd player on but i dont have an amp or sub. i dont think it is the fuel pressure or the immobilizer because both times the key was already in the 'ON' position for a very long time.

the tempurature outside was already pretty warm for winter. around 10degrees celsius and clear sunny skies.

Red face Re: Car randomly won't start sometimes

I have a 2003 Honda civic ex. Auto trans. 1.7. It does not seemed to be getting any fuel. I don't know why but it will not start. I don't know what an immobilizer is or where it can be found. The fuel pump comes on or makes the noise like its coming on when I turn the key . I am at my mind's end here and need some assistance . Any help appreciated!bradleyholland8@gmail.com
