D17 Turbo Vs. SpecV
Friday night me and a few of my friends went up to a place where everyone in town races on the weekends. Ive got an 02 civic witht eh TSI Extreme turbo kit running about 9psi. I wasn't planning on racing, but when we got there a guy with an 02 SpecV with Intake Header and exhaust was being really cocky telling me I'd need another turbo to compete with him. Well...anyways, we ended up racing. I launched at 2,500rpms and pulled about a half a car right off the line. Then I pulled another car length on him when i shifted into second, and pulled another car length on him when i shifted into third. So in the 1/4 I had him by about 2 and a half cars. I thought it would be a pretty close race considering what ive heard about how the specv's react really good with a few bolt ons.. But, nah, the d17 still owned!

I haven't dynoed yet or ran the track, so I dont have any "real" numbers yet...but I raced the SpecV again last night, becuase he was complaining saying I was rolling on the last start. So when we raced last night, we raced from a stop light. It looked to me like I had him by about 4-5 lenghts at 100mph then after that to 120mph i just kept pulling. He admitted this time i was faster and he said that as soon as i shifted into second thats when i really pulled him hard. Turbo is the way to go boys!
w/ my power..i should be 12's at around 108 to 110mph....i can see the story very releastic...a bolt on spec is around 170ish whp...and a heavier curb weight than an lx...assuming 9psi is good for what? 180 to 190ish hp? correct me if im wrong here..... and the civic would have the weight advantage....i say bump it down to 5psi and it would be a closer race...but really? whos gonna lower boost? =o) b/c the boost bug bites hard.
