Questions about Turbo'ing your car.
Questions about Turbo'ing your car.
I have a 2002 civic ex sedan.. wondering about a couple things:
1) Will it pass inspections
2) Does it void warranties
3) What is a decent turbo kit out for our car's so far
4) What extra stuff do you have to buy
5) About how much will everything including installation come to
6) What internal work would have to be done to raise the psi
Thanks alot, i'm tryin to find out what i need to put a turbo in my car, but i have a limited budget and i'm not sure if all the costs are gonna pile up or not.
Also, i installed an AEM CAI intake (should have saved my money
), i'm wondering if that will pass inspection or not also.

1) Will it pass inspections - probably not
2) Does it void warranties - yep
3) What is a decent turbo kit out for our car's so far - SF, turbo discounters, rev hard
4) What extra stuff do you have to buy - kit usually come with all you need
5) About how much will everything including installation come to - the kits range from about 2000 - 3500 and installations like a couple bills unless you do it yourself which would be free....
6) What internal work would have to be done to raise the psi - up to what boost?? major things like low compression pistons, rods... etc...........

I know they have all probably been answered in other threads, but there are so many people saying different things all over the place its hard to get a good concept of what the answer is. Thanks tho.
But if it doens't pass inspection, then it isn't street legal... i guess people just don't care about that or something? My friend says that some kits are street legal as long as they are carb certified? How would i know if a certain kit is street legal.

Will it pass inspection?
Maybe not in California. I'm pretty sure that it will a lot of other places though (if you still have a cat. conv.). Do CARB stickers even mean anything outside of California? It is California Air Resources Board.
For LX owners, the only big deal is replacing the cat... which is illegal under federal law. But all I have to say is that 99% of the people at the emissions stations here wouldn't even know the original cat was in the manifold. All they do is take a walk around the car with a mirror to look for a cat. Never once in my car, my brother's car, my mother's cars, and my father's car have they opened the hood and looked inside for anything "suspicious."
As far as emissions, TurboDiscounters said it themselves, and it is all over the internet that a turbo makes a car run cleaner. I don't understand that at all lol. But it seems to be written so I'll say it is so... which should only apply if your fuel system is tuned right and you aren't consistantly running too rich. Also... it's not like they floor your car when they test it. They do 15mph and 25mph testing.

the reason the car runs cleaner with a turbo is because a turbo make the exhaust gases hotter than normal, causing the CO, NO, and the HC(whatever) decompose into carbon, water and nitrogen gas. Which arent pollutants.
