$200 Civic

I just recently aquired a 01 civic lx for $200, the body, tranny, and interior is in great shape. Down side, the kid i bought it from didnt check his oil and it had been leaking from the filter not sure if it's seized or not. The mechanic he took it to told him 3 of the 4 cylinders have compression but lose it and the 4th doesnt have compression. I havent tried to start it or even mess with it a lot. Any suggestions on what motor rebuild vs motor exchange?

Re: $200 Civic

a used d17 motor for those cars goes for around $400-600 on ebay all day with low miles.

Re: $200 Civic

The motor wasnt seized and got it started, isn't knocking and wasn't out of oil. It was leaking around the rear main seal but wasnt out of oil apparently the mechanic shop just wanted the money. The car has 168,000 miles on the car. But its got a ticking on the top of the motor. I'm clueless to foriegn-4 cylinders cars. I have always messed with V8 4WD trucks. but for the money i bought this car.

Re: $200 Civic

Messed with it somemore, pretty sure the top end is gone. I'm just gonna take a salvage motor and put in it. Just got questions on installing and removing the motor. Not sure if its easier to remove it from the top or bottom. If there is a DIY on here i would appreciate the link to it.

Re: $200 Civic

^^ If you don't have a lift you're gonna have to take it out thru the top. It's fairly straightforward- remove the axles, remove the accessories, detach hoses and wire harness and lay 'em over the side, undo the mount bolts and lift the whole motor/tranny assembly.

This guy is doing it to a 6th gen but, you do it the same way with almost all FWD's: [autostream]http://autostream.com/ibcivicforums/?page_type=firebirdplayerthumbnail&framepage=145&t ransactionid=1317581201-719016086&posted_by=lazlong_www.civicforums.com&yo utube_video_id=Me9w6aIqJ48[/autostream]

Re: $200 Civic

you can rent a crane in someplaces too.
top end might be bad, but i would look at a valve adjustment before deciding
