Re: j swap
Being the first to do a swap has a certain amount of prestige, but it'll be a lot of work..
custom mounts,
figuring out the subframe,
what axles and knuckles to use,
custom exhaust,
dealing with the hood clearance,
you need to work out all the wiring.

Re: j swap
now if i do go ahead and attemp this will i get support here? cause im sure guys here know more about wiring than i do. and with the hood clearance. ive seen the body style befor ours fit one with out cutting a hole. they just got ride of all the framing under it. i figure this way its cheaper, cooler, more custom, and faster. and with the axels there si a company that makes them for earlier model civics, they should fit right? or do you think the earlier civics are a little narrower? thanks man for the help already. oh and with the wiring. if i get the accords wire harness chop it and figure out what wires do what i should in turn be able to hook them up with my harness right? or am i completely wrong? sorry for all the questions. but dude your like the civic forum god lol

Re: j swap
The earlier generations do remove the subframe and I see no reason why you couldn't do the same, you just need to factor that in when your making the custom mounts.
I believe the earlier gens are narrower and so few people have done this swap on later generations it's hard to tell you what you'll need, I think you might be able to use DC5-S axles.
Yup, that's how the wiring would work. You just need to get the wiring diagrams for both cars.
The guys on k20a.org, they'll have more answers than I do on this subject.

It sounds like your off to a good start with your research, good luck, I'd love to see this actually happen.

Re: j swap
its doable, but its a REALLY big engine. ur going to have to do a LOT of custom fabrication (wiring should not even be a concern yet. the frab should be)
go for it. but u should be expecting to spend $10,000+
first things first, can you weld? tig and mig?

Re: j swap
The only problem I see, is that the engine is too large, you'd either have to decide to risk bottoming out your oil pan, or cutting the hood
I really wish you the best of luck here, and possibly start a build thread so that others interested can learn too

Re: j swap
ill def make a build thread but its gonna be a while and i cant see this swap being around 10000. cause the j motors aint that exspencive. matter a fact i can get the engine and tranny from a local junk yard for under 500 then i can see about another 500 in metal for fabing. the wire harness is around 30 from the same car. and i'll get another from my civic so i dont have to cut mine up. then after that axels are gonna be exspencive but mooser custom builds axels and they quoted me 170 to shorten and have my axels swapped from ford 5 lug to chevy 6 so i cant see having the accords shortened and swapped being much more. so im sure i can have it for under 5000

Re: j swap
It can be done for $5000-7000 if you're not paying someone to figure out the wiring and fabricate everything for you. Remember, the cibaru only cost $5k total to build.

Re: j swap
There's only one other person seriously considering a 7th gen j-swap that I've heard of and he changes his mind about his build plans weekly. First it was K, then J, then J was to expensive so back to K, then J was worth the expense, now a turbo D sounds cool.. not going to happen..

Re: j swap
I really hope you start this project
My buddy bought a 1990 miata as a project car, going into the air force
...3 years later, the car is still untouched :P
He claims he just doesn't have the time to do anything to it (Though he has the resources on base)
