D17 Turbo

Whats up guys...

Currently im rocking a d17... heres the thing, i'd like to hit atleast the 200-300hp mark... I don't know very much about d series motors, but i was wondering if the motor was built if it would be capable of of handling enough boost for that power reliable?

I know i would be better off purchasing a k series, but i am lacking the cash right now, and i understand these can cost quite a bit in the end.

Re: D17 Turbo

just looking around it looks like some of you guys are hitting 400+ with these motors! i was checking out the internals sticky but i didn't see anything in the 1st post about em. What should i look at upgrading in this thing? How much boost would you have to run roughly for 250hp numbers?

EDIT: Just realized the posts go the other way around :P

Re: D17 Turbo

i made 282 on bone stock motor...well it had arp studs cometic head gasket and a crower stage 3 cam...i had a bad boost leak in the video when i was at the dyno but i got 282hp at 15psi.....it depends on what turbo you are looking to get and how good the tune is but if you get a decent size then prob 10psi will get you are 200-250....if you want 300+ then build the motor.....i now have a bulit motor b/c i wwas at 25psi and the rod finally decided to show it self to me.....to tell you the truth i would prob save up and buy a k b/c you are going to dump almost as much money to build the d17 as you are doing the k-swap(i spent almost 5k on the built d17) and now i belive the swap is like 3k before k-pro but i would use a k24 not k20.....that is just my opinion im sure others will chime in

Re: D17 Turbo

Like shwoogie said, you can get to your goal without to much difficulty with a quality turbo set-up, K-pro, i/h/e, and a stage 3 head. You wouldn't need to touch the bottom end, but at that point you putting a fair bit of strain on the engine and some reliability is inevitably sacrificed. I wouldn't want to go that route on a daily driver. The only real benefit is the ability to do the mods gradually, whereas a swap is all at once.

A k20a2 swap with I/H/E and K-pro could put you at 220hp at the wheels, with complete reliability. The disadvantage is that it would cost a little more and you need to spend all your money at once, but once your ready to go turbo on a k20a2 then you could make 500hp+ without much trouble.
