to all the turbo geniouses

i need help. i have a turbo off of a supra and some guy told me i couldnt use it. well he said i could but it would require me modding the engine so much that it would cost me around 18000?!? i was like there is no way. but i figured id ask on here cause ya'll are more civic people than he is.lol so if i got all the needed parts for a turbo kit. could i just bolt it on or would it really not work? thanks guys

Turbos are not just "bolt on". There are other mods that are necessary. 18000 is way more than you would need to spend.

You would need fuel pump, injectors, regulator, exhaust manifold, I would get a intercooler, BOV, wastegate, intake piping, ecu tune/aftermarket ecu, dyno tune. Depending on how much boost, you could also need forged internals, headstuds, head gasket. Plus more that I cannot remember right now.

There is no reason that you would not be able to use that turbo. But it might be cheaper to get a kit. Do not buy ebay turbo stuff!

Hope that helps.

Yea, and you don't really wanna be putting a turbo on a stock engine (you can, but don't expect tons of horsepower, ie. 200+) because the engine is simply not strong enough to support it. You'll end up blowing it up if it's not built properly.

Re: to all the turbo geniouses

well i didnt plan to get all that and i already kinda figured on buying all that. i mean i already have a turbo with wastegate. and an intercooler i have a bov lined up and maybe a turbo timer if i can get an adress.lol and i plan on running a low boost till i can get someone to rebuild my motor i have all the other pieces priced and where i can get them. and i have a question a guy tried telling me he has a "universal wideband" is there possibly any truth in that? i dont know if such a thing is real. but if it is i will buy it. cause he only wants 30 for it and some other kind of gauge. and a pillar. but if i cant i wont buy it. so i think i got most of it.lol if ya'll find more fill free to fill me in and dog me out if it makes up for my noob questions.lol

Re: to all the turbo geniouses

I would be surprised if a D series wouldnt see 200hp with a turbo on a stock motor. A few years back HCI magazine did a test on the B16 after hearing from people how weak the B16 bottom end is. So they took a motor and turboed it and started turning up the boost to see what it would take. It was well over 200 HP before it started breaking ring lands. The answer was to put a good set of forged pistons in and because of piston pin assembly it was opted to go with forged rods as well, even though the stock rod would have held up. With the forged pistons the B16 motor could produce 500 HP reliably all day long. It made 507hp on 24lbs of boost.
