Re: Hondata for d17a2 manual

It's a waste of $1200 w/o serious modifications whether that be N/A or turbo. I remember a long time ago Andyman said he made like 130whp with just AEM EMS and a stock motor before he went turbo. I imagine that kpro would yield similar numbers.

Re: Hondata for d17a2 manual

Hondata is going to be better because its not universal, its derived from honda software. This is utterly useless without boost or a major build up. Most people see 10-15 hp on a boosted setup with just the addition of a standalone, because of the added control over the system.
No one is going to have one of these on a stock motor. There's no point.

Re: Hondata for d17a2 manual

if you have a stock motor, the apexi controlers are really all you need to adjust the fuel curves.

Re: Hondata for d17a2 manual

I just got a K-pro and stuck it on. the motor right the moment it is basically a stock setup headers, cat back exhaust, & cold air intake. you do pick up a little more power, the power band is better, and you can control everything on your car. which is sweet. I have noticed that the car is quicker and so have a couple of my friends.

But if that is all you are going to run it is worthless.

The reason I have it is cause I have a stage two cam waiting to go in when it gets a little warmer and I pick up valve springs. and the possibility of internals later on in the year.

If you are going turbo or your dive deep into N/A(putting cams and messing with valve train) I say get it but other wise it is not going to net you enough gains for the price tag

at most I may have picked up 20hp but I doubt it. It is more likely 10 to 15

Re: Hondata for d17a2 manual

You can find alot of info concerning the Hondata VS EMS issue...

I myself would take the EMS, probebley because i'll be controlling E-VTEC instead of I-Vtec which i'll need a K-Pro for, probebley to control VTC, i'll take the EMS anytime for the D

Talk to Oscar (djmota) and look at his numbers. He has a built top end and Hondata and was tuned by Church Automotive. Its a nice setup.

Re: Hondata for d17a2 manual

Hondata did a tune on a stock d17 for the map that's provided with the software. They went from a stock of about 93-ish to about 125-ish at the wheels if memory serves me.

There's no difference between controlling i-vtec and vtec-e. You're opening a solenoid which allows oil pressure to flow into certiain spots, activating alternate cam lobes. That's it. If you can connect that circuit, the solenoid opens and your vtec works.
