Re: T.E.A.R.S. - Turbocharged Engines Anonymous Relief and Support Thread
redlineracing... May I be the first one here to welcome you to the turbo community (everyone forgot their manners) and mention that if you're planning on hunting down WRXs and SRT-4s you're going to definitely need bigger injectors... and probably should consider running up to 9 psi or so after fuel mods and a good controller. Even those of us with working cars (not me) running 5 or 6 psi are hard-pressed to break the 200whp barrier. But, with a solid fuel system and tune, running 9-10psi should put you where you want to be as far as keeping up with your buddies - somewhere around 200-220whp.
Also - you're going to eat your stock clutch for breakfast. Plan on replacing that and a flywheel while you're in there.

Re: T.E.A.R.S. - Turbocharged Engines Anonymous Relief and Support Thread
Good post Paul, those are some good injectors. Deatsch Werks 525cc jobbers, direct drop-in like the RSX-S and SRT-4 ones. In fact those Deatsch injectors are the same body as the SRT-4s and take the same clip.
RSX-S injectors = 310cc
SRT-4 injectors (the Stage 1s) = 577cc
You would just need clips from Dodge to get them to work. You can either get them new (Paul sells them for about $60 for the set shipped) or you can go to a pick and pull and pull the clips off a Neon or most other 4-cylinder Chrysler vehicles. Just take an injector with you to make sure it fits. Wiring is simple. Just make sure you're consistent in which color wire goes to which side when you wire them in. It's really easy.

Re: T.E.A.R.S. - Turbocharged Engines Anonymous Relief and Support Thread
Paul... you should get a thread stickied detailing out several price stages of turbo kits and links to all your products... like for example include links to the fuel parts, etc. I know you have the pull-downs on there, but I think for first-time searchers on this site they might not know the importance of the different parts for the D17.
I very clearly remember 4 years ago as a newbie just thinking "lemme slap a turbo on this bitch" and calling it a day. $7,000 later and I STILL need a working fuel controller.

Re: T.E.A.R.S. - Turbocharged Engines Anonymous Relief and Support Thread
God damnit that's tempting. I am swearing to myself to just keep the RSX-S's and tune for 5 psi due to the mileage I rack up... but God DAMNIT that would be nice as long as I'm redoing my fuel management...

Haha... I know. And even after that. This thing is staying a 5 psi car for the forseeable future.

Re: T.E.A.R.S. - Turbocharged Engines Anonymous Relief and Support Thread
Emanage can do the job but it's not the best. If you can find a good tuner you can have a safe setup but if you can't then you may run into driveability issues etc. I'd get PCS or AEM F/IC but if you're on a tight budget Emanage is fine and most tuners are familiar with it.
Re: T.E.A.R.S. - Turbocharged Engines Anonymous Relief and Support Thread
if you plan to tune and leave it alone for a while, i don't see why the emanage would be a bad deal. like ronaldo said though, it's not the best at what you're asking it to do, but if money's tight (as it always is with us, we drive civics and not even good ones for crying out loud
) it'll do the job ok. def get a wideband though.
and send Logic the link so he can finally get one....

AEM or PLX I recommend for widebands. Check ebay and forums for deals. Otherwise look forward to spending about $300 for one.

I paid $200 for my PLX wideband with controller and display from Andy a while back. Good unit, good response time and seems accurate.

redlineracing... I think you're member #6 (am I forgetting a number, anyone?) so long as you go with the E-Manage. I have one, RSX-S injectors and got ripped off for a crappy tune, but to it's credit - I've put near 20,000 miles on it this year with only a CEL during the summer months... (who knows why anymore)
...but it's been a challenge. Wait until you actually start taking your car apart to put your member number up... because that's the point of no return. You can still back down and cower in fear and bewilderment until then. Ha ha...

Re: T.E.A.R.S. - Turbocharged Engines Anonymous Relief and Support Thread
i would hold off on tearing stuff apart until you have all your parts, esp the fuel and engine management pieces. the mani and exhaust are easy enough. i think that took of about an hour. the wiring and vac hose routing and other little nit-picky things (of which there are an ***-ton once you go boosted on a normally N/A car) are what took most of the time.
as for the injectors, they are drop-ins, but you will need to get or make some fuel rail spacers, as the rsx injectors are a little longer than the oem ones. i can't remember the exact measurements, but i want to say they're close to 14mm
good luck in your build btw

Re: T.E.A.R.S. - Turbocharged Engines Anonymous Relief and Support Thread
I went ghetto style to space them out. I used a handful of washers and a longer bolt from the hardware store.
From personal and collective experience the best thing for you to do when performing this build is to pile up every conceivable part you're going to need before starting. Then the next thing you'll want to do is as much of a tear-down as you can. I.E. - take out the oil and coolant, radiator, A/C, battery, front bumper, etc. I tried to install as I went (I took that damn radiator on/off 3x) and see now that people like speedfoos who did a tear-down had a quicker time of installing everything. There's going to be a whole lot of trips to the parts store for little crap you never thought you could possibly need, so getting a proper pre-installation will help.

Re: T.E.A.R.S. - Turbocharged Engines Anonymous Relief and Support Thread
For the spacers on your stock rail, either get longer studs (thread pitch is 6mm) or use 6mm bolts. For the total spacer you'll need now, it's equivalent to the two of the stockers stacked on top op each other. Tony, you're right I think it measures out to 14mm.
For everything you could possibly need have a look at my "My terbow shopping list and tips thread" link in my sig. It's got everything I put on the for the build plus a couple little helpful tips as well.
Ben's right though. Make sure your stack of parts is complete before you go ripping apart your car. Easiest way to prep the car is take off all of the following: front bumper cover, radiator, (do you have AC?), crash bar, headlights, PS pump and alternator (pop them off the mounts and move them out the way, no need to disconnect anything), and then you get in to removing **** that won't go back on the car.
Feel free to PM me, Ben, Tony or some of the other boosted guys as you go along. If it comes down to it, I'm happy to walk you through troubleshooting on the phone as well.

Just a random thought: I should probably bolt my crash bar back on after 13 months without it.
Re: T.E.A.R.S. - Turbocharged Engines Anonymous Relief and Support Thread
hey guys , i hope no one gets pissed about this ? but u guys all seem to know ur **** about turbo so im gonna ask lol ... my brother owns a 92 laser rs turbo , all stock other than exhaust and bov... his car was running fine the other day and this morning he went out to start it and it was having a problem idling . it was surging on idle, ok well then we took off down the road in it and under ANY load whatsoever in any gear the car does a complet fuel cutout and acts like u just ran into a brick wall??????????? i cant figure it out. checked for boost leaks found nothing major, no vacuum leaks, 155-170 compression across the board, all injectors firing , i couldnt find anything , anywhere wrong with his car. after 13 hrs in my garage today i decided it was time to ask for some help , searched some dsm forums but couldnt find nothing useful there either. any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated fellas . thanks

Sounds like a vacuum or MAP sensor type issue. Car flips out because it can't read the state of the manifold pressure and doesn't know what to dump for fuel. I don't know how the LS is setup, but I would find, pull and clean the MAP sensor first and see if that helps.
Hey Rufus. How well does that intercooler clear the bumper? Looks gigantic.
