Any trans (especially auto ones) not designed for the torque of a turbo engine is going to have a shorter life then if the car was left stock. It really comes down to how you drive it. Think of the clutches in an auto trans like a clutch in a manual trans. Every time the transmission shifts they slip to engage the gear... It will wear faster with more power. If you drive hard then hit me up when you blow it haha.

Re: Who's Turbo Sucks More? (Boost Anonymous Support Group)
My turbo keeps me up at nights right now. I'm only getting four hours of sleep. I swear it's like when my daughter was a newborn.....
I have a long list of issues that I'll post once I catch up on everything that I've sidelined for the past month getting this thing in.

After all this headache I think I'm gonna sell my tsi kit. I already spent $3500, now the car is sitting in the garage with a blown head gasket. Its gonna cost me another $1500 with injectors and fuel management. I only enjoyed this turbo for about 1 week. Everybody's **** doesn't seem to be working and if it does they've spent a **** load of money. I could have carpeted and put new windows in my house. We already have an 02 tl type-s but the civic was able to keep up with it. Untunned I was getting 146whp and 136 of tq. I need opinions as to what I should do. Am I to close to give up or what??

Well it probably only blew the HG because of no tune. Replace it yourself. its a pretty easy job honestly. like it was said b4... Its just nuts and bolts.

^^^^^Exactly!!! Don't give up on her!
RSX-S injectors are cheap, buy Ron's emanage (not optimal but waaaaay better than TSI), the stock pump should keep up to 5 psi with no problems at all. Plus a HG. You're talking like $400 man.
If you need help with doing the HG replacement hit anyone of us in PM with your questions and we'll help you out, but it's very easy to do. I just did mine like 2 months ago, and will probably do it again here soon when I ARP the block.

Re: Who's Turbo Sucks More? (Boost Anonymous Support Group)
im using the stock pump w/ a modded stock regulator boosting 13 psi and making 235 whp haha I still have way more then enouph fuel. Im going to see how much the stock pump can really put out once I get everything else done.
Re: Who's Turbo Sucks More? (Boost Anonymous Support Group)
Ok cool. The most I ever done with my car is help put the tubo on with a friend which took about a couple days. i'll buy the head gasket from auto zone or something. I called dezod and they said go AEM IFC with the srt-4 injectors. So I need to know which 1 to go with. A guy said he would sell his srt-4 injectors with 16k miles for $200 is this good or should I go rsx-s injections. U guys were saying emanage is garbage.

OOh and also you should probably order an OEM gasket from a honda dealer since its so important. You dont what it to blow again.

I got a screamin' deal on my SRT-4s, got them for $48 shipped. Guy on Ebay had no idea what he had so I scooped them up 5 minutes after the auction started. Sometimes you just get lucky.
Yeah go with the AEM or the PCS. I have the PCS and love it, but you can't do any timing adjustments with it. With the AEM, you can, however you can only do one - I can't remember if it's pull or add, Paul and I had a convo about it.

Re: Who's Turbo Sucks More? (Boost Anonymous Support Group)
does it matter what yr of srt it comes off of?? I went to speedquest and he said he could get the AEM/ IFC for $385 instead of $415 from dezod and $465 @ AEM.

C'mon.... anyone crack an intake? Leave the fuel line disconnected before starting the car? Melt something? We need more horror, more gore, more blood!
Did I mention that during my install I forgot to put my oil pan back on after I tapped it? ...for 1 week in the winter time. Outside.

Re: Who's Turbo Sucks More? (Boost Anonymous Support Group)
Let's see....here's a good one.
I incorrectly ran the WG vac line on the first time on the road after boosting (yesterday, 11 Sep). It was pullin' like a **** until about 4500 RPMs and then would stutter and spike lean. I couldn't figure what the crap was going on!
I'm watching the AFR, the tach, and the road trying to figure what is going wrong. I thought it was the tune. I get to work, 1st time driving the car remember, and take a couple folks for a ride and it's doing the same thing. I was able to keep it boosting at partial throttle, but if I went WOT it would lean out and stutter.
While partial throttle boosting, I'm at 6K on the tach, 13.5 on the AFR. I look at the boost gauge.
12 psi.
Did I mention she was pulling like a ****? And I'm tuned for 4 psi? On RSX-S injectors? Not good.
The way I had routed the WG vac line was causing the valve to NOT open, when it was "supposed" to open faster. Needless to say I may have partially blown the HG. Two new ones are one way, and I'm about to go check the plugs. Changed the line back to the way I had it, and she stays at 4 psi now.
Yikes!!!!
Luckily I didn't detonate too badly and blow the motor.

Correct, you may only pull timing with the FIC.

Re: Who's Turbo Sucks More? (Boost Anonymous Support Group)
I think I have everyone beat...
When I finally had the car looking how I wanted, I decided it was time to get some more power. A few people had done nitrous kits and a very few had done turbo. This was when SF had just hit big on 7th gen. I made arrangements to have Mike Stafford and Catalyst come out to colorado to help me install the kit. Here's how it came out...
Basically, this setup had a t3 super 60 turbo, stock injectors, sf fuel setup, air/water intercooler tubular equal length manifold, SAFC II, Greddy Profec B Spec II electronic boost control, all autometer cobalt gauges and a few other things. This was all on the stock non vtec motor. I assume it was maybe pushing around 160 whp maybe on about 10 psi. The night we finished the install, we didn't realize until it was too late that we ended up with a blown headgasket because the side mount intercooler pinched off a coolant line.
Let the never ending string of engine problems begin.
After the coolant line leaked enough out, my headgasket blew. I tried to replace it myself but was never "shown" how to do it so I had the tq specs all wrong and the gasket never sealed the head to the block properly. The motor was toast by the time I realized what I did wrong, several months later after multiple headgaskets. Then I swapped out for a new non vtec motor.
From there, I kept the turbo kit for a while, couple of years I guess. Then, due to a divorce, I ended up selling all of my parts off. Sold the turbo kit to gotti and parted everything else out. After I caught back up, I started piecing together parts for a new setup. I got an SFP turbo manifold, picked up some j and u bends for intercooler pipes from jegs and started working.
Here is what I had...
I picked up a t3/t4e turbo 57 trim with a .48 ar hotside. Nice sized FMIC, tial 35mm wastegate, d16y8 intake manifold. I ended up getting some 440cc injectors and got everything installed. Due to the issues with the emanage and such large injectors, I never ended up being able to run a reliable setup with a good tune so I had to wait for the aem to come out. As soon as it was available I picked it up from dezod.
This setup once installed and tuned (on a stock non vtec motor) made 247 whp and 211 tq at 13 psi.
Not long after, I decided it was time for a vtec motor build. I put together a d17a2 (vtec) with wiseco 8.8:1 compression pistons and crower rods. All new oem crank bearings and did all of the work (except machining) myself in my garage.
I ended up with 750cc injectors, dezod equal length stainless exhaust manifold, jdm fabtech intake manifold, aeromotive fuel pressure regulator and return line. With all of this work, I couldn't squeeze out more than 260 wheel horsepower, so I figured it was time to start playing with the cam. I was boosting it to about 18 psi and I couldn't get above 260 so I installed a crower stage III cam and valvetrain upgrade. I had it retuned and spinning the motor to 8k at 18 psi, I made 335 whp and 255 tq.
I went and retuned for a little more boost afterwards. We ended up hitting about 354 whp and 277 tq. I never was able to get a copy of that dyno in hand. Not long after, I began blowing headgaskets like crazy after the return line install because I didn't have a fuel filter for a few months and the injectors clogged. It took me a long time to diagnose because I kept finding other issues, alternator was spiking voltage all over the place and other stupid things. But once I diagnosed the problems, I sent the injectors in, had them cleaned and retested by RC and installed an inline fuel filter.
Afterwards, I sold the AEM EMS and got the K Pro. After install, tuned on pump gas at 21 psi, I hit 374 whp and 280 tq. Shortly thereafter, I spun a rod bearing due to a leak from my return fitting. I kept my head and installed a stock non vtec bottom end until I had the time to rebuild which I am now starting again.
As of now, I'm having fuel delivery issues. Not exactly sure why but I'm replacing basically every part of my fuel system in the tank and rewiring the pump from a non-ecu controlled power relay to ensure I'm not having voltage variances that will affect flow. I'm also installing a new pump (walbro high pressure 255 vs. the standard 255 that dezod sells). If that doesn't solve the issue, I'm switching to a fuel cell sump tank and running an external bad mother****er bosch 044 pump and will never have to worry about fuel ever again.
Shouldn't take me long and I plan to remove the a/c and install a 3" downpipe for better flow. Setup will essentially be the same but I am planning on a race gas tune on 25+psi to try and break 450. Time will tell.
But, for the record, things don't get destroyed just "because". They get destroyed because things that need repair or replacement are neglected and one small problem compounds on another. If you know what you're doing and you don't dog the car while things aren't right, you should be able to diagnose and fix small things before they turn into something bigger.

Re: Who's Turbo Sucks More? (Boost Anonymous Support Group)
I hear that... after my HG blew and I rebuilt... my bad tune forced me to drop back to 5psi. My e-manage map is all screwed up. To quote Paul "It's not the WORST I've ever seen..." So right now, I'm driving like grandma. My car never sees over 4000RPM. Most of the time I shift at 2500RPM at partial throttle. I will NOT blow this thing again.
Once I get the Walbro pump/SRT-4 injectors/AEM F&IC and a re-tune I'm still only going to run 10psi or so with a fully built bottom end... Even if I could run say 12 or 14psi... I won't simply because I'd like it to remain problem free after that.

We should create a slogan for our support group... LOL... like call ourselves Turbocharged Engines Anonymous Relief and Support... or T.E.A.R.S. for short...
"All turbo build-ups end in T.E.A.R.S."
I make myself laugh.

Re: Who's Turbo Sucks More? (Boost Anonymous Support Group)
o2 sensor was being pinched on the frame of the car and frying my alternator fuse about 5 times before I figured it out.
My oil return line collapsed...didnt know until my oil light came on...thought it was kinda weird since I check it every couple of weeks...fill up my oil and auto-zone come home and my engine is smoking! f*ckin oil ALL over my engine bay...thank god the turbo wasn't blown.
On my 3rd map sensor
and my fav...wall apparently my e-manage is sending a low map sensor voltage code and anytime I even get close to boost my car goes into safe mode...so yeah...car is going back to stock and putting the turbo on a BMW 318

wait to you hear this i put a turbo on in 2 days blew a coolant line at school my rpm idles at 750 and she cuts off like its no tommorw..... worst of all my auto trans slips like its icy out side but only when i drive for about 10 mins. and there is something whisleing on my car thats loud as hell and not the turbo
so i end up boosting like crazy and going no where help me if u can

Re: Who's Turbo Sucks More? (Boost Anonymous Support Group)
That's really funny Logic! I likes it. It's now going in my sig block.
Turns out my "no tach signal" was caused by me piggybacking my aftermarket coolant gauge off the stock sending unit, trying to run both gauges off the same sensor. If I knew a smidgen about electronics, I would have realized this would not work. Too much resistance on the line, causes the ECU to flip out.
My HG officially leaks from that first day of unrestricted (12psi +), unfueled boost. Oh well. As stated in my ginormous thread, ARP studs and two new HGs are on the way.
