Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
Nice welds man. You're a helluva lot better with a MIG stinger than I am! I think my pre-cat pipe is more weld than pipe at this point.

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
Well the only weld on that pipe thats mine is closest to the vice. The other 2 are machine welded LOL. I was just using .035 flux core wire and im pretty happy with it. The biggest problem I had in the beginning was burning through the tubing. I just put the feed speed to 1.5 and power on the min setting and it was much better. I practiced on a few scrap pieces untill i could get it decently smooth. It helps having someone who welds for a living help me tho haha.

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
That's more than likely my problem. I'm using some .030 flux core right now and it's just too thin. Once my new wire gets here, I'm going to practice some more before tackling my new DP and exhaust project.

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
I just got done with the 3" exhaust and wow its got WAYYYYYYYYYYY more mid range power. I couldn't rev it past like 4800 rpms tho cause it kept hitting the 13.5 psi boost cut. All you turbo guys do yourself's a favor and go with a custom 3" exhaust. You will get into boost so much quicker then with a smaller exhaust. I need to change the boost solenoid duty cycle to keep the boost lower till I can get back to church automotive. The only problem now is that the exhaust is pretty loud but im sure ill figure something out...

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
ooh ya and I got the car to idle good now. I just increased the idle solenoid duty cycle a little bit and its smooth as butter now.

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
Can you put up some pics of how you ran it past that transition in the unibody reinforcement (where it zigs to the pass. side at about a 60 degree angle) and how you got it over the axle?
I've got most of my tubing to do 3" from DP through the cat, but then I'm going back to 2-1/4" because of the size of 3" tubing. How low does it hang? What are you using for a muffler/resonator combo? Are you using a cat? What's your sign? Do you sleep with the window open or closed? Favorite foods?

Sorry for all the questions man!! Good job on finishing up the exhaust yourself! I can't wait to run my 3" setup but was curious about the answers to all those questions I just asked. Post a sound clip if you get a chance!

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
Ok here are some pics. I still have to mess with the angle of the center pipe since it hangs a bit low. And I need the put the part of the v-band where the bolt is to the top instead of the bottom. Ill have a drive by vid as soon as I can turn the boost down a bit. I will say that its definatly not as loud as like an N1 muffler but its still more then I want.

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
Yikes, you're right that hangs low!! I don't think there is any way I'm going to be able to keep it tucked up enough to clear these crappy roads over here if I stick with round pipe after the cat. Looks like that Dr. Gas oval tubing is going to have to be it for me. Man though! 3" piping looks sweet!!! Good job!
What do you think about making the curve further down the chassis so you don't have that crappy frame crossover to do? Kind like this (in yellow)

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
Well you would still have to figure out how to get past that center reinforcement (circled in yellow) which is even lower then following the stock exhaust path. I also dont like the idea of an exhaust pipe being that close the the fuel tank w/o a heat shield. I will be able to rotate the section circled in red to tuck it up more. I will probably end up welding another hanger in somwhere also since this is way heavier then the stock exhaust.

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
****. I didn't think about that crossmember. I'll look at it tonight to see what can be done, but it looks like you're right. I don't feel like adding a heatshield to the gas tank either. I'll get under there again tonight to see what I can do.
Congrats again on a nice job though!

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
why not cut the cross member and weld in a half moon to clearance the pipe? If its done right it wont reduce the strucually integrity of the member much

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
That's what I'm thinking about. My only concern is the fuel tank and fuel line right there. I really don't feel like dropping the tank to get in there with a MIG stinger to fix it up. I'm going to put the car up on a lift Tuesday night to get a proper look at what kind of space is involved. A decent sized sheet of allie will work as a shield for the fuel tank and you can also wrap that portion of the pipe for extra security.

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
Damn.....will you look at that.... That does read sort of British with the "proper" and the "allie" bit doesn't it? It hasn't affected me verbally yet, but I don't put my beer in the fridge anymore!

Blech to USDM beer and Stella. I'm a German weissen or hellas, or a nice stout or ale kind of guy. I drank a Bud Light a couple months ago and almost choked. /jack

Re: Getting Ready for the 3rd tune
Well looks like I may not ever get my last tune done..... I had put in for a supervisor position a couple months ago at my work and hadn't heard anything about it. Well my manager called me today about an hour ago and offered me the position on the condition that I would go to school and get my BA of business management finished. Sooooo I'm open to offers. I want to sell everything at once preferably to someone local.
