Re: My New Turbo Set-Up Thread
Well I got the v-band flanges and 409ss mandrel bends for the 3" downpipe I didnt bother to take pics of those. Here are some other goodies.
Intake manifold flanges. I have decided to go with an H22 TB instead and relocate the IAC. The pic shows the total D17 flange set we use.

Now for the fun stuff. Precision GT3076RLE-12. Assembled to my specs. Probably nothing special but it should be good to almost 500 crank HP, not that I will make that much, hehe. Gotta thank Chris and Timmy for the great deal. They are sponsored by Presicion and Chris really came through for me by doing all the legwork to set me straight.

Re: My New Turbo Set-Up Thread
yeah, much better. my one computer at home doesn't allow me to use the advanced features either. in that case, i'll just manually type the [img] tags around the links. can't wait to see this all done!!!

Re: My New Turbo Set-Up Thread
Glad to see this thread still moving, I see it as one of the most important threads to ever hit the forced section on this board. d16 and 17 rods are the same except the 16 has beefier big ends. Both motor have the same deck height. Pretty much the only difference is the cranks and the pin height in the piston. But since the rods big ends are thicker you are better of just loosing the .1L
Cant wait to see how it turns out, if I can ever finish my Starlet my 7th gen will be getting the same treatment.
Best of luck
Randy

Re: My New Turbo Set-Up Thread
Got around to welding up an intake manifold. I used a Honda Pilot TB I scored on ebay for $35 shipped. Its about 2.5" ID so it should work out great with my 2.5" piping. I am going to have the manifold powdercoated sometime soon too. I never clean anything so I dont wanna polish it, hehe. The pics were from my cell phone so hope you can deal with it, hehe. Same kinda setup as Andy's with the tapered velocity stacks and the plastic insulator spacer (not in the pics), just a little different plenum and the obvious TB change. It should work out nicely after I rework the throttle cables and such.

Re: My New Turbo Set-Up Thread
thats pretty tight.. So with a 1.6L crank, you should be having a shorter stroke length correct? If i remember correctly, i believe that the D16 has a 90mm Stroke, and the D17 has a 94.4mm? Did you use custom rods?
little picture i like to show:

Re: My New Turbo Set-Up Thread
so you need custom rods to use the d16 crank? can you use the d16 crank/rods and d17 pistons? or are the d16 rods not short enough?

Re: My New Turbo Set-Up Thread
I am assuming they will. The mains should be the same, on the rods the size difference seemed to be negligable. If anything they might be a touch narrower but they probably are the same. I used the D16 bearings to match my crank and rods. Honda journal sizes usually are pretty consistent and many blocks share the same size bearings. Actually one of the part numbers I used was also for an H22. If you have an engine apart and you want to use the ACLs just buy a set and mic them out, if they arent the same toss em up on ebay and order OEM.

Re: My New Turbo Set-Up Thread
so which D16 lower end did you use? i heard the lower end fro ma Y8 is different from that of a A6? can you clear this up please? and a set of stock D16 pistons will do the trick? well not stock but stock dimensions. like say some forged endynes?

Re: My New Turbo Set-Up Thread
Well I chopped out the whole radiator support, got the center brace tied back in, and the manifold mocked up a lil. I did it in my driveway with a scratch-start 110v DC TIG inverter so its a lil messy but once I get it tacked I'll take it back to the shop and work some magic. I ran out of elbows but the rest should be here tomorrow. The compressor touches on the #2 runner so I either need to stick a spacer in there or chop off the flange and raise it up, NBD. The compressor isnt staying in that direction either. I know it looks like hell but the end result will be much neater. The old motor is still in there and its just a primary mock-up.
P.S. if you are confused about my WG and manifold placement dont be, Im using a older style half radiator with a 2 inch core and a 1600cfm fan to gain a bunch of room. Lots of crap needs to go back in there still, hehe.

Re: My New Turbo Set-Up Thread
I didnt want all kinds of sharp bends in the manifold and downpipe so this is going to work out sweet. Plus I can run the air filter behind the headlight and pop it out at the track. Still need mounts for the rad. Im hoping to have enough room to put the crash bar back in FINALLY! gonna use a 3.5 inch thick IC, maybe 8" high and mount it to the crash bar.

Re: My New Turbo Set-Up Thread
Got it all tacked up. Reworked No.2 runner to clear the compressor and tightened up some of the joints too. Everything fits perfect, compressor outlet goes where I planned, the downpipe has ample clearance, I can almost fit the whole palm of my hand in between the hood too! Gonna rip the old motor out tomorrow night I hope. I'm just chipping away at it, it will be done soon I hope.

Re: My New Turbo Set-Up Thread
The Jet Hot Ceramic I had on my old housing rusted through after about 2000 miles. I think the wrap actually works better at keeping the underhood temps down IMO. Im going to use heat wrap this time around.
