maybe he's talking about the ability to run hondata on the older ECU vs not on the D17 ECU. that would be a cheaper benefit in some ways. If you could get the distributor,plugs,d16 cam and ecu + maybe harness it might be better for the F/I members who dont wanna drop $1600 on AEM EMS like me.

Apparently the shop in question have done a couple of D17 swap in older civic... They always add the dizzy and then run the D17 with older ECU. They did not took more pics of this swap...
or not
I don't think they only swap the valve cover for the picture, if so, it's alot of trouble!!! Just look at the oil dipstick... They cut it and just put the handle for the pic??? if so they are

Man this really got me curious. I just happen to have a D17A1 and a couple of D16Y8s in my basement. I don't see how the dizzy could bolt up or how the A1 cam could drive it. It's BS from what I can tell. Looks like a D17 valve cover on a D16Y7 to me. BTW a D17 head DOES NOT FIT ON A D16 so forget that. Neither does it make any sense to even do that (D16 head > D17 head) . It would make more sense to try and run a D16 head on a D17 bottom but that doesn't work either. Maybe I'll see if the D17 valve cover fits and the dip stick has a place to slide in. If it does I'll post a pic.
And geez, did someone take a dump in that engine bay?

pis pour mettre un distributeur il faut sortir le cam et grinder la coche pour quil tourne.
If it's not true, this guy is the king of BS!!!
He was flammed a lot at the beginning on the forum... but he kind of convinced us... now I am trying to see if it's true with 7thgen forum folks...Someone try this and confirm if it's possible or not!
dont know if thats a d`7 or not .. but i can tell you one piece of FACt i know cause i did it myself for a customer who wanted to experiment. The crank and pistons from the D17 fits inside of a D16 block. So basically its like a OEM stroker kit for a D16

Why?
Look at the cooling pipe connection. On the D17 it is straight (90° from the head) like on the swapped pics, on the D16 there is a angle on this port from the engine... And, let's say it's still a D16, why did the guy needed to cut the cooling pipe to make it fit?
Sorry, but I am sure that this is a D17 with a dizzy... we just need to figure out how the hell he did it!
I'll try to get more pic from the guy.

Why?
If you can manage to fit a dizzy on your D17 and run an old computer that you can tune (with Uberdata, chrome, etc)... instead of buying a expensive AEM EMS... I don't see why it's a waste!
If you say that swapping a D17 in older civic it's a waste... it depends on your need an budget. If you only need a new engine in good shape without a lot of mileage... a D17 is a good deal. I am not talking about building a performance engine here... a daily driver.

LIke I said in my earlier post I have a D17 and 2 D16Y8s in my basement. Well guess what the valve cover fits on the Y8 and the dipstick slides in.
I think thats all we're looking at boys - a D16 with a D17 valve cover.

Because I'd prefer not to ghetto rig something like that. Spend the money and do things right, the way they were MADE to be done. People who want to "cheap out" or "go cheaper," are the people who come back complaining because it didn't work right. Plus, uberdata and the likes are not free, you still have to buy the burning tool. I'd rather spend 100 more and get an emanage, and spare myself the headaches.
