Engine almost dying after spray
Engine almost dying after spray
I raced my LX last night against my friends EX on a road beside our workplace (no traffic). Anyway, I used my 50 shot and I sprayed in the 4400-6200 rpm range in 2nd and 3rd and when I let off of it, the engine almost died. It was idling real low (around 200-300 rpm's). It was fine after a few revs. I guess it loaded up or maybe lost some fuel pressure. I didn't get to look at the a/f gauge to see if it was running rich or anything. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them before?

Speedster, Im not sure what exactly caused the low idle, but i know that to much fuel inside the IM or TB will cause a low idle. Check your A/F ratio and make sure your not puddling fuel inside the TB or the Manifold.
Also
What spark plugs are you using?
What octane of fuel are you using?
Have you cleaned the soleniods yet? They recommend that you do after 3 bottle refills.

I'm using denso IK20's and running 93 octane. My a/f is around 11.5-12:1 when spraying. This is my second bottle refill. Do you think I should try to get some smaller fuel jets and try those? Hey Dizzle, what is the exact name of the kit you sold me. I pulled up the instructions off NOS's website for the universal 4cyl-6cyl kit (Part #: 05130NOS). This is where I got the jet sizes from. You said the jets you sent with the kit were the 50 shot, but it didn't match up with the sizes I got from the instructions. This is the correct kit right?
Ive had my car completely shut off before after a race... I think its like what another member said about it running extremely rich when you let off the nitrous.
Whats this thing about cleaning the solenoids after 3 bottle fills. Ive never read that anywhere. Can anyone provide a link about that. I would like to read up on it and such.

Yes it is the NOS 05130NOS universal kit. More than likely i had the jets sizes mixed up. Speaking of which, i recently found the instruction booklet that came with the kit. PM me your address again and ill sent it out to you today.
According to the manual 50 shot should be 30/22 jets.
Edit~ Id get some IK22's and some 100 octane (if you can get it) tune around 12.5-13.0, running in the 11's is to rich, youll blow your intake manifold if your not careful

Chapter 6 Routine Maitenance
When nitrous bottles are refilled they can become contaminated wtih debris, If the refiller does not have adequate filtration in their transfer pump mechanism. Contaminates in a bottle will eventually become lodge in the nitrous solenoid filter fitting.
You should periodically (after 20-30 lbs) examine the mesh in the nitrous filter for debris
To clean the filter.........................
1.close the valve on the nitrous bottle and disconnect the nitrous feed line.
2. remove the feed line from the solenoid. then remove the nitrous filter fitting from the solenoid.
3.Remove all teflon paste from fittings
4. Examine the mesh filter for contaminants, blow out debris with compressed air.
5. apply fresh teflon
6. reconnect the main nitrous line to the nitrous soleniod
Is your bottle pressure at the right level? If your bottle pressure is too low, you will run rich no matter what because you have the jets at 50 shot but the bottle can only spray a certain amount.
When I had my nitrous, if the bottle wasnt at right temp for example too low of a pressure, my car would usually idle very low after spraying and eventually die, but I can start it up no problem again. I suggest you check your bottle pressure before spraying, make sure its at the right pressure, then see if your car dies when spraying.
For some reason, my car dies alot and idles low, I think its cause of tuner, I told him to put me in safe level so he ran me pig rich, but It hink I need a retune cause my car keeps dying only when i reverse and move the steering wheel.. car runs too rich, what did you mean if you run too rich you will risk blowing your intake manifold..

BINGO!!! I think we have a winner...I believe he is right because the same thing used to happen to me on occasion after running the juice. Its the fuel line after the fuel solenoid that is draining into the intake after spraying.

Yes, I have a heater. I run it at 900psi. When I raced that guy I had it at 950. That idea about the fuel line makes alot of sence. There probably isn't a way to help that is there? I might try to find a shorter supply line to the nozzle. Maybe that will help. Thanks alot guys
