think of it this way...
if you boost your civic, thats pretty much it. no more HP for you.
if you swap, you get about the same amount of HP BUT you still have the decision to boost, nitrous, NA, whatever you want.
so, if you just want to be in the range of 200 ponies just boost, if you want more, swap. no one really needs more than 200hp anyways.

a local shop here in sc quoted me $3800 for a full k20a2 swap. i didn't believe them at first, so i asked if they knew they needed the subframe, wiring harness, basically a whole front clip, they said they would get a jdm type r front clip with full install for still $3800.
DONT PANIC

Im not done making more power with the d17. And im pretty sure the stock k20 wont be able to hold more power than my motor. And im pretty sure a built one wont be much superior to mine.

of course with that much power you may want to think about spending the money for an AWD conversion. Be expensive but you could do it.

Of course having two cams produces higher horsepower numbers just because of the cam overlap that you can create but that isn't everything, that is just more efficient flow capability. There is also a k series motor that I have seen put down over 700 hp. But guess how much money went into that setup? Probably around 20-30k (on top of the car.)
We're talking efficiency here. You want something fun and quick. Why spend the extra on a new motor when you can boost your car up to 10 psi for less and get more power and speed?
This is a pretty good topic.
I been trolling around these forums for a few weeks thinking about this question, also thinking about saving for an 06 Si.
I have never known anything about cars til about 2 months ago, and since I haven't been able to stop learning more about them.
Anyways, back on topic, the K20a2 swap sounds like you might as well get a new car, unless you want a sleeper, which is what some do want. The turbo sounds like a good option other than the reliability aspect, but for an extra 1000 for internals, another 1000-2000 for dyno tuning it can be reliable.
I wish the 06 Si would come out so I could do a better comparison... It's going to have LSD, six speed shifter, and gawd damnit November is the earliest anyone will be able see the production version...
Hey Andyman, do you have any numbers with your turbo? 0-60 & 1/4mi?
btw- somone mentioned something about the axles only handling 200hp? anyone know if it's an issue?

As far as the si, nobody knows for sure what's going into it. Everything is speculative at this point.
Dyno time will not run you a grand. Should be well under 500 unless someone is trying to rip you off.
I don't have 60 ft times or quarter times yet. I haven't finished everything on my current setup. I still need to pick up a few more things. Expect some dyno hp numbers by july 1st (hopefully.)

well boosting a D17 is good because if you blow it up you can always pick another one up for a decent price and learn from your mistakes. theres only so much you can do to a D17. and the aftermarket products arent very plentful as it is for a K20. But i think you would come out on top if you did a k swap, then you could allways boost it down the road, or do a toda cam package or something.
