Question map sensor

how does the map sensor usually act on a turbo car?
how does the isolation valve help?

The MAP sensor measures pressure inside the manifold. So on a turbo car under boost, it measures the increase in pressure.

Not a problem so far, but the engine ECU is not programmed to measure positive pressure, so it cannot read it. An isolation valve bleeds off the positive pressure.

You voltage clamp the map sensor so it never sees boost

For example, the car will read positive manifold pressure at 5 volts via the map.

To bypass that you get a voltage clamp and set it for 4.7 volts so the map sensor will never read boost and get confused.

Most of the time, you just use a "black box" type deal. Jackson Racing and some other companies make them. I think even cybernation has one. I have the E-manage though. It has a separate map for Airflow adjustment and a voltage clamping feature. It gives you the option to clamp voltage to what ever you specify. The Airflow adjustment map, will let you alter the voltage from the map sensor throughout the RPM Vs. Throttle Position ranges. There are a bunch of ways of doing it though. A bleeder valve is the cheapest, and it's also effective.

Synapse Engineering's Missing Link is now available for our cars. Its another option for keeping your MAP sensor from reading boost, and fairly inexpensive. http://www.synapseengineering.com/html/ml004.html

Does your map work off 5 volts? I used 5 as the example. If your CEL is tripping check the code and see what the exact problem is referenced in your FSM.

You might have the voltage to low. If you do try setting it closer to 4.7 with a volt meter.

I wish I could help... Most likely tomorrow afternoon I'll find out. I think what I should have done is logged the RPM and MAP input when the car was still stock. I'll check my laptop later to see if it's on there. At least that would allow the ECU to still see everything as normal. I can't even remember what the MAP was reading when it was stock... but 4.4V sounds higher than it was. I'll try to see if I saved any of the stuff I logged. What codes are you getting from the ECU?

EDIT: My conclusion right now for you, without talking to anybody is that you're voltage is clamped too high. What the maximum votage at WOT? It's either 4.5 or 5.0V. I'll still try to find out for you... but I think 4.4 might be too high.

You used to have to be a dealer. But they are still hard to come by. If it says lower... then up the voltage at the RPM the light comes on. (This is exactly why I said I wish I had logged all of this).

If you want to borrow the cable (and the software if you need it) once I have my numbers, PM me... we can work something out (free of charge).
