This weekend i going to race my friend with 6thgen civic ex turbo. All he have is greddy turbo running 5-7psi and greddy exhuast. I know it not a fair run but, he bugging the **** outta me to race him for some reason. i already know i going to lose anyway, whatever. I have civic ex with hp header/cat,apexi n1 exhaust, aem cai and vtec controller(not tune) set vtec kicking around 5200rpm and plus stock firestone tires.
We both are ok driver , but i know he can't launch either am i too. Everytimes i lauching i spin throw-out whole first gear. I need some advice on how to launch. I want to take him out by lauching.
Bet on who going to win me or him

exactly. for the love of god dont even try to launch an auto. all your going to get is a loud clunk, your not going to go anywhere any faster and your going to be paying for a new tranny a lot sooner.

I found when I run someone, let your rpm's hang around 2,000 at the most, then let your clutch out FAST, try not to totally DUMP it. If you rev any higher, and you don't have some nice rubbers, you'll spin no matter what. When I launch around 2,500 i always spin first gear. But when I just let the RPMS chill at 2k, then let clutch out, i get a little chirp, then I just go.
anywayz, I wouldn't rev over 2k if you dont want to spin 1st

on stock firestones you should rev to about 2200, anything higher will cause excess peeling. you should definietly feather the clutch and not have your foot on the brake or use the e-brake. feahtering the clutch will give you a better launch. you also need to have a very good reaction time. you should be able to pull out about half a car in front of him if he doesn't know how to lanuch, but he'll eventually catch up, because his car has more high end than yours. but yeah hes gonna win.
Go here if you want the best launch possible. I've tried it. Dude it's crazy. http://www.se-r.net/car_info/fwd_launch_tips.html

and then open the door get out and pick up your tranny. That is not good at all on an auto tranny a D-17 auto tranny may last a while doing that, or it may go quick. I say don't do it Joined: Apr 2002

revving it up and dropping the clutch will not do ****. you either have to feather ur clutch like let it out slowly while keeping up a decent rpm so u wont bog(can burn up the clutch, but an effective launch method)
or just start like you would off of a normal stop light then punch it. <this works, its kind of like an automatic tranny launch....almost bogs out but then shoots

Ok hold in ur hand brake at the stage, rev it up to 2500 and just pop it out then redline first gear shift at 6,100 second gear and you wont get passed third thats my advice or listen to that website its good
deploy,engage,destroy.. to fail is not an option

just go to a parking lot or safe place to practice... compare and observe w/c is best for your launching... but i bet even though your friend is not a good launcher driver he has turbo. so basically your screwd. peace out.
i say put some type-r sticker and you will be faster...lol...jk jk jk...just do some test runs first but then again try 2200 or 2500 and feather clutch...thats what i always do...remember to reduce wheel spin and your all set..of course turbo is gona win but atleast you tried..good luck and keep us updated...
