i was just doing some reading on diys. and realized my dome light stopped coming on when i opened the doors.. this only started after i put in my new deck. theres an extra harness in the back. not hooked up to anything, im going to guess the wire was in there somewhere? how can i make it so the dome light lights up again?

Are you sure your bulb didnt go out, the door button that activates it when your door is open isnt stuck? Also make it easy on people, what kinda car do you have... nobody wants to look it up in your profile.
What do you mean about an extra harness.. I've never seen an extra one in my 01 civic.

oh and u obviously know how theres the stock one that wires up? with the front speakers and rears and stuff. well theres another harness, smaller, kind of just hanging out. i have a 1998 civic ex. im guessing thats where the lights wired in? but this is the only thing thats stopped working. so maybe not?

You shouldnt have an extra harness that just hangs there... plug it in wherever it goes. I know the wire to the dome light comes across the headliner and down the dirvers side pillar, after that I guess its just a matter of tracing the wire.

hmm. im going to take a look in the back and see if i can find where the harness can plug in. if it came out of the stock deck should there be a place on the new deck or something?

Re: dome light, for doors? probably simple.
sorry to say, a very small window of civics 97-98 i believe had the keyless entry and dome light circuits built into the factory honda radio. most people to get around this will buy a special harness that allows the stock radio to be hooked in and hidden somewhere in the dash, and then the aftermarket plugs in and works too. that way, you keep the dome and keyless. if its not a big deal, prolly not worth the trouble of having two decks. there may be a way around this but without the electrical manual for your car and the schematic of the radio to study how the dome circuit works, it would be kinda hard to rig a fix without the honda radio.

yeah i meant ALL 97-98 civics had that problem. i was referring to the window of all civic years. those two were the only one with that issue. if you dont care about dome light and have an aftermarket alarm, no problems.
