My 88 Civic Sedan
Hi
My name is Lorelei and I'm new here.
I got my 88 Honda Civic LX sedan given to me in Nov of 2009 because it had problems. It was leaking oil into one of the spark plug tubes pretty badly. A few bucks later and alot of research and we finally managed to fix it.
This is my first Honda and also my first standred transmission. It didn't take long to fall in love with it. I've had a few other minor problems with the car since I've owned it. This includes a starter and a heater motor. I have also done a tuneup on the car because when I checked the wires they were origional from 88. The car has 321,000km on it now had 316,000km when I got it. Runs beautiful and is very reliable I'm definately starting to learn why people like Civic's.
Now as I said mine is an LX model so it's loaded the only option it doesn't have is a/c. Every power option works right down to the power mirriors, which to me is pretty amazing for an 88 with that mileage. I love the way the car drives, I have 4drs but feel like I'm driving a sports car. I previously owned a 97 Saturn SC2 but my civic would beat that car hands down anyday. Plus I have none of the anoying rattles I had from that car I swear everything on that darn saturn vibrated and I hated it.
Anyways I'm including some pictures. Also one with my car when I first got it showing the body damage that it had due to someone backing into the rear passanger side results in a very broken taillight.

Re: My 88 Civic Sedan
the car seems really great. i have also been saving to do tuning on my car for the past 8 months. however it is a 88 civic and i am thinking whether just to get a newer model and go for engine swaps etc or to use this one. i might have some problem with parts as few of my friends have warned. would like to know if i should go with this old a model.
Re: My 88 Civic Sedan
Looks pretty nice(I know there is some damage, but my phone can only show a somewhat decent picture
)
. I'm with the other person who posted. What was the issue with the oil on the plugs? I know sometimes it's caused by leaky seals or gaskets(please correct me if I'm wrong). I recently changed the valve cover gasket on my old Corolla which had the same problem. We took out the old plugs and replaced the gasket and the things runs like new now. Before it sounded and ran horrible.

Welcome to the forum and glad to have a new member here. The car looks good just needs a little cleaning. It's amazing how older cars seem to last much longer to this day then our newer cars.

Re: My 88 Civic Sedan
Welcome to the forum, that looks like a great project car!
Civics are very easy to work on and if you ever have a problem someone here can almost always help you solve it.
My Aunt and Uncle have owned the identical civic since new in red, it currently had 850,000 kilometers and still going strong.

Hi Lorelei,
I'm from Belgium and i own exactly the same car but in grey and with only 97.000km.
I hope you will enjoy it but this i'm quiet sure.
I have a question for you, do you find parts in Canada for your car? Here in Belgium and also in Holland i can not find any parts anymore. I had a small accident (i know, stupid f*ck) but i need some parts.
regards
Dennis

Re: My 88 Civic Sedan
Its getting more difficult to buy pre-90's Honda parts in Canada all the time, but its not a huge challenge. Many more Hondas were sold in Canada than Europe though, which is likely why your having trouble finding parts. I'd suggest you look online and see if you can find an online network of scrap yards to source parts in Belgium, we have that here and its very useful. Good luck!
Now, finding parts for an E30 BMW is probably a lot easier in Europe than it is in Canada for the exact same reason.
