A question a dumb question (do Gen7's have traction control and speed governors)
hey, sorry if I started my membership to the site with a numb-skull question. I recently acquired a Gen 7 (2004) Honda civic coupe, when I ran it i was impressed with how quickly it could corner and handle highway and freeway speed and this got me a thinkin'. do these excellent little cars have speed governors and traction control; if so, how do i get rid of them?

ABS only on higher models (look for the idiot light when you turn the key on), no TCS or VSA on that generation.
And maybe a top vehicle speed limit that you probably can't ever hit while driving on a real road.

thank you. ummmm, but one more question, if there would be a top speed limit, how per-say would I be able to remove/change that?

That would be in PCM programming. You would have to go aftermarket.
But do you REALLY think that car could ever hit its speed limiter? Have you tried to find the top speed yet?

on track purposes
A stock 7th gen will hit 120, no governor yet. So no, it isn't a reachable governor if there is one

^^^That's why I said "maybe" up there. I don't know for certain if it has one.
Governed speed would be set at the factory by OE installed tire speed ratings AFAIK.

Post #3 says 120 is the limit on his car
EDIT: Post 19 says 135 in an 02, post 21 says 137 with a manual trans in an 01

Jack up the front end, remove the wheels, and set it in gear and floor it and see how fast the speedo will go?
Re: A question a dumb question (do Gen7's have traction control and speed governors)
i got it up to 110MPH on an abandon industrial road. i have not the chance to do the whole put it on jacks and floor it thing seeing I only have acquired it recently.

That's only one reason to remove the wheels first.
The other is so you don't blow all the tread off the tires from overspeed. If, for some strange reason, you had one wheel not spinning-- the other is going double the indicated speed. 120 MPH X2 = 240 MPH. That would PROBABLY cause some rather spectacular tire disintegration if you only have average low speed rated tires.

Re: A question a dumb question (do Gen7's have traction control and speed governors)
top speed on our poor 1.7 liter engines?
if will get there after 3 days stomping on the gas

they econoboxes, who cares?
even if you go to a track day as novice you are limited to 80MPH .
BTW, your username is scotian. If you have an euro version, it should be 1.5 liter, so even less ponies (and top speed depends on ponies, or WDP "wheel dog power"
