Quick! Need help
Quick! Need help
Today I was working on installing my progress coilovers. Everything was going well and when I went to torque down the upper strut bolt. The one in the middle to its spec I couldn't get it to tighten any at all. There's a huge gap between the bolt and the top of the coilover. Here I have attached pics. I followed the directions they gave me and everything seemed perfect when I was installing it. Has anyone seen anything like this when they did their coilovers?

Use a socket and ratchet to hold the shaft still, and use a wrench to tighten the nut.
The nut is a locknut, so it probably has a nylon insert...it will be tight all the way down.
Or get a 1/2" drive impact gun and see if the nut will zip down.

Re: Quick! Need help
your strut is spinning with the nut. you have to hold it still while tightening the nut. impact guns work well because they spin faster than the strut. when it gets to a certian point you can just crank it down

Very nice. Worked perfect. But now I can't get the rears in. The bottom hole here the single bolt goes in through the strut wont go in. I've tried everything to get it in and nothing. So I'm taking it to work today to grid it down a little and hopefully that'll help.

The coilovers I bought are made for my yr civic. But it is deffinetly wider. I'm about to trim them down and was wondering if I should do both sides to make it even or just do one side?

Re: Quick! Need help
Thanks! These forums have been a great help for me doing my first suspension upgrade.
Here's a teaser shot of what I have done so far. Just missing my rear struts and progress front sway bar.

wow 27mm in the front.... I kept my stock one 15mm (i think on the 04 EX) to give me more control in the front. the bigger bar in the front causes more under-steer. Some remove the front bar all together.
I have a 19mm in the back and 15 in the front and noticed night and day from the stock bar set up.

Anyways I have another question if anyone could help me out. So after I did everything I moved onto removing my front lca do I can put in my ES bushings in and while trying to remove the ball joint using every trick I could find and not able to get it out I tore up my ball joint. Now I have to replace my ball joint idk how I'm going to get it out so hopefully I can figure something out.
Anyways I was going through the ball joint DIYs and noticed That it have found two different torque specs for the two bolts in the front struts. One is in the "all the suspension info you need it says it has to be tightened down too like 115 ft lbs and in the ball joint DIY it says it's 72 ft lbs. So wich one is it? I'm really hoping the 115 ones because that's what I torqued then down too. Thanks guys.
Re: Quick! Need help
Lol yaa that's exactly what I was thinking. Not too excited about having to remove it to do my ball joint now. I was just going to go with an oem ball joint but I see these extended ball joints is there any advantages of going that route.

This is sort of turning into a build thread, do you want me to it to member rides and change the title?
Re: Quick! Need help
Extended ball joints correct compromised suspension geometry by moving the angle of the control arms back to level from a raised position; the raised position of the control arm is a result of lowering. The suspension will be more responsive when they are installed on a lowered car. They don't make a tremendous difference, however.
